Hey guys, I want to introduce our little beginner project. We are 4 people who do not just want to start with their "good" car. So we got together and built us a pretty decent fun car.
We opted for an E34 530i because the parts will be available for later E30 V8 or a 540i - let's see!

Here are a few pictures of the reconstruction, which began Monday this week and was finished Friday evening. Saturday we went for the first ride. ;)

you plan on doing anything to try and gain more steering angle? I was talking with a rep from wisefab this weekend. he said people put an e36 front sub-frame in e34's. than install an e36 Wisefab angle kit.

Currently not. The steering angle is sufficient for us first, to have fun. But there are problems with the front subframe from a E36, especially with a M60 engine. Since the oil pan in the way it normally?!

Last weekend there was again a lot of practice time. Unfortunately the soft engine mounts destroy the water hose. However, we are very happy with the car, but we will do a lot over the winter!

Until next practice we probably done:

- new input shaft seal
- New motor mount
- replace water hose
- More practice! :D

looks like an awesome little test course ya got there...

Damn it part of the reason I picked up an e34 wagon when DD shopping was so that I wouldn't end up with two track cars and no DD... now I see this and the temptation to prep the wagon is surfacing again.... but seriously that looks like a blast! I was pretty impressed with the handling balance of mine even bone stock when I did recon laps at VIR, must be great with coils, must resist...

Thank you all for the good words! :)

It turned out that the engine mounts were not the problem. That the engine was moving so violently was because of 2 completely broken transmission mount . ;) So we replaced them.

The car was also thicker stabilizers

http://s14.directupload.net/images/131030/g6mal3nu.jpg

VA : 25mm instead of 23mm
Rear: 18mm instead of 15mm

Let's see if there is recorded a noticeable difference . :)

Then we have bought this pretty cheap:

Then we have bought this pretty cheap :

http://s7.directupload.net/images/131030/uxsj5wa9.jpg

At first we were not so happy when we saw this in a cylinder :

http://s7.directupload.net/images/131030/f4vv88ni.jpg

http://s14.directupload.net/images/131030/ejjg5q4t.jpg

The others all look like this:

http://s7.directupload.net/images/131030/azqxzrzd.jpg

So then just did a compression test . All cylinder where the exhaust valves looked good were recorded 13-13.5 bar . Only in the black with the valves only 10bar . But this is no reason to be upset because the values may be 10 - 12bar . So let's look at what is . :)

http://s7.directupload.net/images/131030/wpttv5kt.jpg

Spark plugs all looked good, but the valve cover gasket is leaking M60-typical and therefore the candles are quite oily.

The donor for the add-on parts is now arrived (M60B44). The head is removed and the valves need to be redone. :(

Very nice, Great control of the vehicle too, How much does it weigh now? Thank you! :) We do not know exactly, but think it should be around 1400kg (3090lbs). This is still very heavy, but the good thing about the E34, it is extremely durable! We have already knocked down trees with him, with a diameter of 15cm (6 Inch) without any damage to the front! ;) So a great beginner car! Best Regards, Chris

We had a lot over the winter before:

- M60B40 swap
- New clutch
- Install FlyOff
- Weld body

But we made nothing - we all had a lot to do! :(

Nevertheless, we were last weekend for the first practice time of the season and the car works great! (on a new track) The only problem: a hose from the water cooler has come off and has the engine and the ignition coils flooded with water. It fell 2-3 cylinder, so we could not go on drifting (it feels like 150hp) :( - at home, he ran back on 8 cylinders. :confused

Beginning of July was the last mission for the M60B30 and he says goodbye in impeccable condition [and with over 300tkm ...]

http://s1.directupload.net/images/140910/4iag5o6n.jpg

He had to make room for the M60B40, which we had repaired over the winter:

http://s14.directupload.net/images/140910/f7auy2cu.jpg

http://s14.directupload.net/images/140910/7txtrjlz.jpg

The conversion turned out to be not as simple as first thought. Engine was from a E38 740i, many accessories have been taken from a E39 540i M62B44 because our engine came without attachments. But in the end everything worked out.

New clutch:

http://s7.directupload.net/images/140910/kbk8tfau.jpg

http://s7.directupload.net/images/140910/h6kva2gm.jpg

Just before the first start:

http://s14.directupload.net/images/140910/qk3dg4f8.jpg

Immediately ran smoothly. ;)

The 3L V8 air filter box had not fit since the 4L V8 has a much larger AFM. Therefore, the intake air filters now is a cheap air filter.

Then there had to be an improvement for suspension. There is a lack of camber on the front axle and the chassis Ebay is very soft. The E34 drives like a boat ... Looking for ne suspension, we noticed that the E34 coilover-kit of Ksport very similar to the 200SX coilovers...;)

http://s1.directupload.net/images/140913/yfjofkam.jpg

We decided to buy a cheap Apex chassis and try our luck.

http://s14.directupload.net/images/140913/vrailm52.jpg

The dampers of the rear axle were like new - everything could be turned super. At the front it was all scruffy! At the end we had the sleeve to flex.

The suspension was disassembled and cleaned.

The last damper was rebuilt yesterday:

http://s7.directupload.net/images/140919/5taqtqc6.jpg

http://s7.directupload.net/images/140919/mxqtqh7j.jpg

All around lowered a bit, but that has to be more low ;) [rear about 1-2 cm, front about 3-4 cm]:

http://s7.directupload.net/images/140919/jxsvpbb4.jpg

http://s7.directupload.net/images/140919/7fk5ojo6.jpg

http://s14.directupload.net/images/140919/mzw8mwkx.jpg

http://s14.directupload.net/images/140919/r596htz4.jpg

Track plates [40mm per side)] have already been ordered for the front.

Now the exhaust must routed to the rear, so that he is not as vulnerable.

The car has now finally again seen a laundry and the coilovers was screwed a little further down. The idle actuator from the donor vehicle was probably a hit, so this was replaced. Now runs very well.

Let's see how it sounds under load. : D

Now the most important things are done - few metal sheets must still be made. Some are designed to protect the fuel lines at the rear wheel arch and the other to complement the front fender.

We went on friday to the wheel alignment where we adjusted on the front -3 ° 40`, with 0 toe. On the rear axle you can not adjust much on the E34. Since we now have -2 ° 20 'and a bit of toe-in. Saturday we went to Drift training, where we only had problems ... Even in the warm up lap the oil pressure light goes on and the engine had noticeable resistance and went idle then getting out. We suspect bearing damage ... We first of all think that oil pump M60 typically dropped, but that was not the case: http://s14.directupload.net/images/141021/o25wzblo.jpg Always impressive, something that always happens in the worst moments ... For small rounds at home with the car there was absolutely no problems. We hope it is only the side bearing and the crankshaft is still OK Some footage from the drift training:
