Hi I'm Eric and I'm a newbie, please excuse me if I seem a bit green. I have a 91 ix with a bad rear diff that needs to be replaced. After looking at the car, my friend and mechanic told me he has some serious concerns about getting the thing out due to some badly rusted bolts. He's afraid to get it partially off and be stuck. Given the rust and difficulty getting to the bolts, I'm looking for any helpfull suggestions how to deal with it. I was wondering if you could gain access to the bolts from above by cutting a hole in the trunk bottom. I suggested dropping the whole subframe, but he said that also had some big risks. Surely I'm not the first person to be in this position. If anyone has any tricks or ideas about dealing with rusty bolt, please let me know. I have to keep this car alive and on the road. Thanks for your time and consideration
