We put 2 " taller springs on the coil overs yesterday. Here is a before picture.

Here are two pictures after the first run at getting the right ride height.

Please let me know your thoughts. Should I go a little lower in the rear, a little higher in the front or just leave it alone and call it good?
Cheers,
Jim
I'd say it is absolutely perfect right there. I love a little rake in e34s and I think yours has it to perfection.

second pic is not working
by design rear should be an inch or so lower than front so the ass is not sticking out that much, it looks about right in the first pic

Love the rake. What coilovers do you run, Jim?

Fixed the second picture. I am running Ground Control with 8" springs 600 lbs front and 200 lbs rears.
Thanks for your comments!

The light rake really accentuates the E34's lines. The car looks an awful lot more distinguished now.

Well my preference is a little lower in front and rear lol. However the second shot looks pretty damn good. Maybe just a smidge lower in front.

Jim, I think you have found the perfect balance!

That. To me perfection would be a matching amount of "gap" front to rear. Really though, it looks damned good as is. Loving the rake as well. What size wheels are those, and are you running any spacers?

Thanks for all your comments, with that I will leave it as it is for now. We have a steep downhill driveway with a sharp uphill at the bottom. Right now we have the car setup with about 1/16" clearance on the front bumper when I leave the driveway so I really can't go too much lower in the front with the M-Sport front bumper on it that we installed today unless I back out of the driveway.
The wheels are 8X17 in the front and 9X17 in the rear. Rear is spaced 5mm and front is spaced 10mm.
Cheers,
Jim

Thanks for the specs Jim. :) I have a square set of style 5's that I'm sure I'll want to space out a bit. In another thread you mentioned getting spacers with hub centric rings built in http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1947024-Ironman-s-Daily-Drivers&p=26656757#post26656757. Are those a custom order?

On the rear I used the H&R TRAK+ 1075725740 in the rear. The needed to be modified on the inside by beveling the inner circle to lay flush with the rotor that had a slight bevel built into it. On the front I tried to use the 15mm that they offered but my front hub was too long for them to work so I tried to find one that would fit but could not. I ended up with using a 12 mm spacer that I had here that did not have the hub-centric ring built into it. In order to get the ones with the hub-centric rings to work I would have had to take the spacers to a machine shop to have the centers opened up to be the same diameter all the way through. All 15mm spacers with the hub-centric ring that I could find have an area that is thicker at the ring for strength. This machining was going to cost more than the spacers ($80-$160 quoted). If your front hub is not long like mine was then they should work fine. Also, If you have a long hub like I do you need to have the spacer on the front so the caps will fit.
Neither of our 525's had this hub issue because they had a short hub. I was told by a few suppliers that they had installed these 15mm spacer on 540's so there may be a difference in the hubs for some of the years produced. Here are the pictures from the thread you mentioned to keep it simple for others future reference. I hope this helps you out as I ended up wasting a couple of weeks shipping spacers back and forth to the suppliers before I ended up with something that would work on my car.

That would be ridiculous since the arches are 3" higher in the front (to make room for steering). The floor is supposed to be parallel to the ground.

Looks great. How does it ride/handle?

Looks great. How does it ride/handle?
This car was setup for the track by the previous owner who has been instructing drivers for 15 years so it handles great. He told me that he had measured the G-fource at 1.5 on the track. The Dinan sway bars and heavy springs make it track flat through the curves. The ride is stiffer than some might like but it is fine as far as I am concerned. I considered lowering the spring rates but seeing that the shocks are tuned for the springs I did not want to change them.
That would be ridiculous since the arches are 3" higher in the front (to make room for steering). The floor is supposed to be parallel to the ground.
The original goal was to have it level but I noticed that all of our E34's had a slight rake so that is what I went with. It would be fun to corner balance the car to get it to the original BMW spec of 50/50 someday.
Cheers,
Jim
