Shocks & struts write up?

I'm helping a friend change his shocks on his 05 Mini S, and I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into. I've gone through dozens of threads looking but can't find a write up anywhere. Can someone please help me out with a link if such a thread exists?

Use the search engine that starts with a G and ends in an E...Type in "mini cooper strut replacement" and 3-5 results down there is a write up by a place that starts with the letter P...I replaced mine and used that link as a ref...Hope this helps
