I am about to pull the trigger on a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports for my E39 and I was wondering if anyone else was running this tire and could comment on their experiences with them. All the reviews I've read and seen say they're simply an awesome tire. They're also the OEM tire on the M5 if I'm not mistaken.

Just sold my E36 with them. As everyone has said it is a great tire. Quiet. Great traction in both wet and dry. Handles spirited driving and highway just as well. I had issues with some Dunlop Star Specs tracking and wandering on the road. The Michelin's did not suffer the same issues. No weird balance or flat spotting issues like some of the continentals or other tires I have owned.

Thanks, DB! That's real world confirmation of what I've been hearing. Can't always trust the media reviews since they sometimes hype what they want to hype.

I run them on my 08 535xi and 08 M3 and like them. Probably the highest performance all around street tire, but expensive. I just put Star Specs on my 99 M3. I think they are a bit higher performance but not as good of an all around tire because of the noise and wet performance. Also, I tend to wear out the insides prematurely on my highly modded 99 M3 and the symmetrical Star Specs will allow me to remove the tires from the rims and cross them over, extending their life span. Advan AD08 would be up there with Star Specs in my opinion. There are more choices in asymmetrical tires, like the new Rival and the RE11A, but those are also not as good all around street tires due to noise and wet performance.

Our test are done with 3 Series and the Super Sport is the best Max Performance tire that we have ever tested. They do everything really well.
If I can help let me know.

No doubt Michelin pilot super sports are best of the best... but I've been reading really good things about Brodgestone Pole Position S-04s, and they are quite a bit cheaper. Check the reviews and pricing! That's what I'm getting next.

The S04 is very good option and you are right about the pricing. The S04 went down in price about a month ago. The Bridgestone line will be running a rebate coming Sept 1 of 70.00 on the set of four on the S04.
If I can help let me know.
