I was curious if there were any. It would be pretty cool to have one. Did they have automatics m3's in europe, or were they only equipped with the 6spd or SPG transmission. I have always liked the looks of the E36 M3

Yes, my friend in Portland OR has a convertible one. He had problems at first getting it registered but persistence paid off and got tags for it. I loved the looks of the engine on that thing. If I remember right, it had a separate throttle body for each cylinder. (His car was imported)

There's a shop in pleasanton, ca. Performance Technic, that has done a few of these swaps, euro s50's and s54's, into e36 m3's. They're all manuals, there was no auto with these engines in europe, though there was the SMG (i'd imagine the electronics would make that swap difficult). They do it right and bring the car to a california BAR smog referee, so it is a legal swap when they're done.

Sounds like a great place, esp if we find a inexpensive M3 with say a bad engine and good body. How much do they charge? It would be nice if we could just import a lhd M3 from Europe. Would also be awesome to have such a rare car.

There is a real (non swap) S50B32 vert in FL. The owner may consider selling for a reasonable offer. This car was converted from SMG to 6spd by a local indy.

A real Euro VIN'd car? How do you register it? As far as I know the Euro M3's are on the "no-fly" list as far as imports go - the engine was never tested for emissions and therefore never legal per the EPA.
