So after doing vinyl work on the center console today I realized I had fixed my sticky lock button!

I hated tapping it, tapping it again, AGAIN, harder, faster, lighter, harder, EUGH! (reminds me of... nm) I took out the lock button many times and cleaned it, it did have pop and other gunk from the PO but it still didn't work all the time.

After pulling apart the entire center console - back plate, ash tray compartment, and storage box, I removed the two bezels that were glued to the center console wood:

Once they were removed I cleaned them up, and did the vinyl and pushed them back in to place. After putting the switches back in they worked like brand new! YAY.

This is why:

All that gunk on the paper-towel is from the inside of the lock button bezel. You certainly don't need to remove them like I did, but it did make it a lot easier to clean them. There must have been almost 1mm of crap caked on there from the past 18+ years of use. It took a LOT to clean it, it didn't want to wipe off, but man I'm glad I did!

I have a working lock button, it's like a whole new car now!! Hahah

Hope this helps someone =)

What kind of solution did you use to clean the switches and bezels?

Good point!

Isopropyl rubbing alcohol..

Very good - my hazards do this. It doesn't really stick, but it just makes a loud "unsticking" sound when I push down.

It's the small things that make it feel like a new car!
