I think his stitching must be bursting from being overstuffed with horse manure.

An m73 is not a formula1 engine. Not by even the most remote closeness. There is no way someone has stuffed one into an e38, then removed and stuffed into a 3er.

Formula 1 engines are designed to go about 300 miles before they kill themselves. I suppose it could be a very old formula 1 engine from the 60's but regardless of it's age it's not doable and a pile of manure like Bin says.

Even assuming it was an old F1 engine, they're all designed to be spun at very high rpm and they don't really come on cam until then, they'd be almost undriveable out of the powerband. They're also designed to haul around like 1600lbs of weight, not 2.5 times that in an e38.

I know that, i made the mistake of thinking the m73 was the motor he was talking about but he was talking formula1, oh and i seen the 3series with an m73 on youtube its there bin IIRC

The Roundel magazine just had an article about the M70 V12 and how it was used in a F3000 Formula car. It's a good read, but I highly doubt you'll find one sitting in the engine bay of a E38 750il. I would be happy to be proven wrong though.

There was an X5 with an F1 engine of some vintage. It was here as the Zentrum for awhile and a vid of Hans Stuck on the nurburgring.

It wasn't an f1 engine, it was a basically the same engine as the MClaren F1. Much slower spinning engine.

Ok, I'll correct myself, it was the S70/2 that was used in the Le Mans LMR prototype .
Still Impressive though.

Sorry, I didn't mean the correction to impugn your statement. Yes, it was a very impressive machine, put in a time of something like 7:56 or something ridiculous IIRC.

idk about the formula 1 engine, but a v12 has been stuffed in 3ers before.

I could possibly see an S70/2 powered E38. That would be an "F1" engine (mclaren f1 as already stated) and not Formula 1. That's a lot more feasible and I can see the misunderstanding happening.

I can also see people easily thinking "oh the bmw v12 in the 7 series is the same engine used in the McLaren F1." It happens.

Possible? Sure, you could maybe make an s70 work in an e38, especially considering OP isn't in the states, but I mean... the cost of that engine alone would seem like a prohibiting factor, regardless of worldly location.

OP, for the love of all that's holy... pics?

If anyone has a wrecked Mclaren in their back yard and wants to donate it, I'll give it a try;)

Perhaps he confused Formula 1 with Formula 409?
