View Full Version : A part warranty question...

So I finally finished replacing the timing guides and water pump on my E38. After a brief hiatus with a vaccum line and a broken MAF, the car has done around 18 startups, and 15 miles with no codes (checked 6 times with INPA) and runs excellently :)
Anyways, my 3 month old osv (on the back of the intake manifold) decided to make the howling noise. After restarting the car, there was no noise until I lightly tapped on the unit. It's an OEM part bought from OEMBIMMERPARTS and I know BMW parts have the 2-year warranty. Does anyone know if I can go to the dealer for the warranty or do I need to contact the seller of the part (OEMBIMMERPARTS)?

Normally you would contact the vendor you bought it from.
Have you tried tapping on it again?

I only tapped on it once. Other than that, it's been quiet for the last 2 days

Oembimmerparts is a deceiving name. It's likely not oem. I had a friend order from him and had the same thing happen. He called up and asked why an oem part would do that. The guy told him its not an oem part, that's why.
Might want to call and ask.

To clarify:
Only BMW parts purchased at a dealership carry that 2-year warranty. Even still, the only way to get a replacement is to bring the car to service, have them diagnose and determine the failure, and they will replace the defective part. If their diagnosis is inconclusive, turns out to be something else, or shows incorrect installation, or improper use, then you would have to pay for their time. Unfortunately, a defective engine part cannot just be brought back to the parts counter, and they will not reimburse for installation.

That's exactly what I ordered as well. That's OEM. Mine works fine. As was stated. Your going to have to go back to the vendor where you bought it from. Just make sure it's the part that's causing your problem and not something else first.

If it isnt making the noise any more and is working OK, dont worry about it.
