what's a good price for this 540i?

pretty good shape ext, int good shape but front leather is pretty used.

the clutch might be original (dealer has no records on this car) seems to let go at the very end, so might need to replace soon.
what is a good price for this car?
does it even make sense to buy it with that many miles?
what problems am i most likely to incounter.

he is asking 16k, which of course is crazy.. but would it make sense to pick it up for maybe 12k? 10k? in in Bay area, CA so prices here are most lieky a little higher then other places around the country.

I'm sure someone else will be along to tell you whether the car is good idea or not, but it's worth noting that bluebook on a '97 540i with 170k miles is still around $17k. I doubt you're going to get it knocked down to $14k.

actaully blue book is around 14.5... i have no doubt i can get it for 14k.. but IMO that is still too much... any other oppinions?
