I have four new tires installed for my X3 two years ago at a local tire company. When I took my car in for tire balance last week, I was told that the inner and outer tie rods have play and needed to be replaced, otherwise, the warranty on my tires would be voided. I have extended warranty on my car that covers tie rods if they have play. I dropped my car off at the dealership service dept for the job. Now the extended warranty company claims that the adjuster did not see play in the tie rods and refused to cover the replacement. But my tire company insists there are play in the tie rods and will void my tire warranty if they are not replaced. What should I do?

I think both companies should discuss the "tie rod" issue so they are both on the same page. One company may not see what the other is seeing. Tire replacement is very expensive so your best bet is to first have them both speak to each other while you are present. Then, you may need to either replace or get another opinion from another mechanic...
