A/C is on a separate belt behind the serpentine, you can see it on the passenger side in front of the block. Just have the refrigerant evacuated properly and start unbolting.
The a/c compressor is not engaged when you're not using it so you're not gaining any power without it, the only benefit is weight reduction and a "hard to sell" condition when you're trying to sell it.

The A/C system in the E36 weighs 48 pounds. That's fairly significant. Remove the lines, condenser, dryer, and the compressor (bracket removal is optional, but advisable), and you'll be set. The bracket and compressor weighs almost 30 pounds, so it's a great reduction in weight as well. As mentioned, it runs on a separate belt, so you don't have to worry about figuring out a custom belt setup.

I can bet you almost any money that he's only going to remove the compressor just like everyone else ... and that's what ... 20 pounds, if that.
I can't think of a single instance where I thought: man, this car would be so much better and faster if I didn't have that 48 pounds in it. :dunno
