Just got them delivered yesterday for my 1988 M5. The PO removed the self-levelling rear suspension, and I was left with Bilstein HDs (good, not the best) and stock US M5 springs. The stock springs don't work without the self-levelling shocks--they're too low and too soft. So I swapped in E28 535i springs (same rate, taller spring) and upper/lower perches. Still too low, even though I set the rear ride height all the way up on the Bilstein. And they're too damn soft! The factory must have tuned in a load of understeer to compensate for the power of the S38.

So I went with Ground Control front and rear springs so I could adjust the ride height at will. The front sits way too high, and the rear sits too low and is too soft.

I will post pics of the install and finished car sometime in the coming weeks. I don't have a garage, so I have to work in the daylight on the weekends.

Sounds daunting and frustrating. . .
Good luck with that James.
