Hello All
I have a weard threat here... A friend of mine got his mini cooper 2009 (stick) flooded up to the radio CD level (3/4 door level).

Stucked first with only half wheel in the water and motor stopped , then within 1 hour water level goes up to 3/4 door level and stay there for one hour then the car was taken out of water. Due this my suspect is that motor itself is not damaged. I am NOT a mechanic neither a mini expert.

Now Mini has no water but needs to be cleaned/ reconstructed. Cleaning is no problem Iīll do it mysenf just for fun.
The rest is a problem.
he HIGH EKS is ruined, probably also the fuse boxes but seems the main Bosh BMW ECU is Ok. Cables seems ok too.
The key system is ruined too and the steering lock system is broken too in order to move the car. Also the airbags ruined.

This guy offer me the car for US$1500 so I can try to bring it to life again.

My question is if itīs worthwhile to pay that money so if itīs possible to bring it back to life this car by cleaning the wire harness and replacing computer (s) and if it is possible to skip using some electrical devices such as the ignition system or disconecting the airbags?

As it is just for fun I dont need to restore it but to make it operative.

Thank you in advance
Regards
Juan

Turn it into a race or track day car. To be honest, I don't think I would buy a 2009 in perfect condition for $1500, .. LOL Well maybe I would.

When any modern vehicle has seen that kind of water exposure, all bets are off. That's one reason why most insurance companies consider flood vehicles total losses.

The question isn't so much whether or not you can get the car to run again, but how reliable it would be after that... And, how long it would run...
