I have this problem...the temp probe needs to go somewhere. Problem tho is that the probe is wide and large for the fins.

Can the fins be pushed aside to make room for the probe. If a fin breaks am I screwed or is the water in the horizontal sections that support each row of fins?

The coolant flows horizontally through the passages above and below each row of fins...

Just gently shove the probe into the radiator. It'll be fine.

I have installed these probes on other cars but that is the biggest widest one I have seen. Be careful.

Be very gentle. I've seen people push those probes in between the fins, and the fins rip part of the tube away, causing a leak.

There's got to be a better way of hooking a temp probe up to the E38 cooling system than that. I have an electric fan on my E30 (it was there already when I bought the car) and I don't care for the probe installation poked between the fins of the radiator.
