Anyone install a Tech III here? I could use a little help. It is the kit from Vic Sias, with the wideband O2 sensor. I have tried calling Vic a couple of inopportune times for him and he has returned my calls but I was hoping to get a bit of a start on what ever help I can get here. Couple of my issues:

Vic mentioned that the unit works on manifold pressure, is there a special switch I need to get for that or is there one already in the manifold and it is part of the plug and play.

The Tech III has a cooling fan, does there need to be more cool air access to the computer compartment?

Where did you display the wideband O2 sensor or did you, should I?

How and where did you run the serial cable?

Does it matter which O2 sensor I replace the wideband with?

Other issues:

As many of you know I have been waiting on some RMS parts. Some that I got were larger injectors and fuel pump (though now I am starting to wonder if the fuel pump is a higher capacity one, it looks to replace the one in the tank and looks very similar to it, are all the higher capacity fuel pumps external of the tank?). Since I will remove the air sensor because the Tech II doesn’t need it might I want to install these or because they are most likely not needed, should I skip it?

I bought the SS ceramic coat RMS headers – install or not to install?

Install
maybe go with more boost in the future.
Has a EGT gauge with the sensor welded into the right spot.
Cooler engine temps.

Not to install
I have heard from some that they are just too big and I was hoping to be running more boost with the stage III stuff I ordered from RMS but if not running more boost should I bother?

Thanks for any help or advice. And these questions may be easily and quickly answered in a phone call – if you have free long distance you could give me a call at 651-353-0206, or e-mail me your number s_bolles@msn.com

You need to get the manifold air pressure (MAP) sensor and a T-fitting to tap into a hose at manifold pressure. Cooling fan is fine in the OEM ECU bay. As for the wideband, I haven't tried that. Waiting to confirm that the response of the wideband is fast enough for full closed loop servo operation. If the response isn't fast enough, big problems...

PM badmonkey he is up on the removal and install of the unit. But I would just hold out for Vic's call. Its his kit and he know it from top to bottom.

Installation is pretty much plug......I had minor difficulties in the play...mainly due to a set of incompatable injectors...causing misfiring...I was thinking it was the software. I ended up switching from Semiens 55lb low impedance injectors to RC 50lb high impedance. The Tec III will work with either.

The ECU compartment is lg enough and the Tec fan is adequate for no
further modification for ventilation.

A Map sensor will be sent with the Tec..your choice 1,2,3 bar Id go with the 2 bar if you're not planning to run over 15psi. you just basicly mount it and attach a vacuume hose..I used the fuel pressure regulator vacuume.

Unless you planning running over 400 plus rwhp the stock fuel pump should be adequate.

My wide band o2 sensor should be here Monday...AFAIK is a 3 wire, cut and rewire in the stock 02 sensors place.

SS header should compliment the performance of the SC.

As far as running the serial cable ...it the plug end thats difficult to pass though the fire wall...If you find the type that will disconnet either end it would be not to difficult to run though the glove compartment.
I just run mine under the hood. though the passenger window. Its not like you have the laptop in the car much after getting it tuned.

I would highly suggest that you download the Tec III tuning manual from Electromotives web site...I down loaded it to zip file..took it to kinko's and had them print and bind it all 175 pages..cost about $18.00

Had a Long talk with Marco (thanks again) and decided to go ahead with the injectors, e46 M3 fuel pump and headers.

The serial cable through the windshield really makes the most sense. the wideband display Vic has wired into the Tech III already so I will just leave it in the computer compartment. I was just wondering if there was a need (or want) to see that but I suppose with the data logging with the PC it isn't needed. (just as a side, it would be cool if the system could be tweeked to allow for the conection to the Tech III through the OBDII data port)

I am an idiot, The manifold pressure switch is there with the kit.

Thanks.
