I went to AutoZone to get a code read and what came up was P0170 or bank 1 sensor 1 (H02S11 if that means anything). I'm not sure which o2 sensor this may be. It also says on the slip that I got from them that I may have a large vacuum leak somewhere but I haven't noticed one when I did the brake cleaner trick.
If anyone has any insight as to what I should do or which sensor on the exhaust I need to change it would help alot. I'm overdue for emissions :help

Bank 1 is indeed passenger side. Sensor 1 would be pre-cat. Did you have them clear the code and take it for a drive. Could be an old stored code. Clear it, drive it, check it again.

Thank you for the responses everyone.
When I swapped out my MAF I did the battery nap which cleared the CEL. It was gone for about 3 days and then came back. I no longer have a MAF code just the bank 1.

had this and cleaned the MAF....problem solved
your results may vary. I would swap the maf back and see if it persists.

I had a different code for my MAF. I swapped it out and the code went away for the MAF, but not for the o2. I believe my o2 is the problem since I have no proof that it was ever replaced since it left the factory. I'm on my 4th MAF and I finally got the code to go away. First one was an aftermarket which my car did not play well with, second was an OEM but for the m62tu motor, third was just a dud that I thought I would try out and the last one worked. MAFS and CELS is my cars Achilles heel it seems

UPDATE- So I got an o2 sensor that from a salvage yard off of a car that recently passed emissions. I swapped my old burnt up o2 sensor for the replacement. I also did a battery nap for about an hour. The CEL was gone and the car ran much better. I drove it to work which is about 25 miles each way and just as I pulled into my driveway, the damn CEL came back on. I'm going to make a trip back to AutoZone today and have them scan it again. My guess is that the other side has gone out. I didn't think about having to do both sides until I saw the DIY on e38.org. I really hope thats the only code that pops up. I will post my findings this afternoon

Quite possibly. I didn't get a chance to stop at AutoZone yesterday since I was running late for work. If I get there and can't figure out the code or if it isn't accurate enough I'll send you a PM. Thank you for offering

Update- I stopped by AutoZone before work and i got my car scanned again. Now i have a P0173 code in addition to the P0170 code. I bought the o2 sensor to fix the P0170 code but i guess its back? Could it be the other cat now? Also, what is P0173 and where is it located?
TIA everyone
