View Full Version : E46 M3 vs 2003 SVT Cobra Stang

Ok...now before I get flamed. I do realize the HP/Torque numbers and that the SVT Cobra should be quicker.

It's 1am and I am curing home from work to Dunkin Donuts to get a Coffee Coolatta (yumm... :ylinlove:) After I get out this hotshot starts talking about his Stang. "It's pure American muscle, that's the way race cars should be", to which I reply, "RearEngine, Rearwheel drive, Straight six is the way i see it." Anyways, he politely asks me if I want to get humiliated by his Stang. Knowing a little history behind these SVT's and my hatred of the typical Stang driver...I say why not.

There is a stretch or no mans land near the Dunkin Donuts where it would be a good run.

Here goes...I switch off the DSC, Off with the Traction, S6, LC and I'm set. On his third honk we let it rip  . I immediately throw a car on him off the get-go. By second I now have 2-3 CL's on the guy...Let's just say by thrid I had a hard time seeing him...

This driver is suprisingly shocked stating mine is not stock. "You have a strut bar and 6 of those cylinder things...mine has one." I respond, "Yes, my car comes stock with a strut bar but I don't think it gives me 50hp and those 6 cylinder things are throttle boddies, the E46 M3 has 6 ITB's." :help He sates it wasnt a fair race...I got too much wheel spin (DUH!!! stock tires on that much power/torque is going to make your tires light up). He denied the second race because "It was getting to late and he needed some rest." ;)

Bad driver...maybe. Stupidy...definately. Thrash and get bashed.

Good Game to bad traction grip. Hello Michellin Pilot Sports. :buttrock

Score another for the SMG !!! :redspot

With out launch control I might never win ANY part of a race in my M3. At least I can say I let off after I took off hard.

I used to own a Mustang (actually 2) but I was never like these kids today.

Actually last summer I raced a new Mustang Cobra. We were at a stop light and we both had the windows down. My GF was with me. He asked if I wanted to race for "PINK SLIPS". I told him why would he pick on a "small" six cylinder with his big SC 4.6L? The light turns green, He spins, I don't, I destroy him. I actually am slowing down and have my hand out the window waving him to catch up. At the next light he says his wifes "BMW" is not that fast. I simply said "I would have raced you for pink slips, but I had a Mustang. Been there Done that. I have unpraged. I guess you now know why?" He got pissed and stormed away.

Nice Kill

That Prick Deserved It

yeah, but not all mustang drivers are like that, and there are a lot of jackass BMW drivers out there. The thing is a lot of the younger guys that get mustangs will have this mentality. Because you have to go and think of their reason for buying the car. Etc. They want the beef.

But yeah ive seen a lot of idiot stang drivers, and some that were cool, there are idiot bimmer drivers, but ricers are a special breed....

I'd believe it if it was a stock 03. However with a few boltons they are a COMPLETELY different animal putting down easily more than 100 whp over stock. Nice kill and good job, it's too bad he was a bad sport about it, there ARE a lot of cool mustang/domestic guys out there. If it beats me i'll give it props i don't care if it's a geo metro with a built bottom end spraying a 200 shot or a 360 modena.

Yeah, nice kill. But what's with the "rear engine" comment? Did you move your engine to the rear?

And how much slower would a clutch manual be?

Oh, I hate how mustang owners brag about their V8 powerplants and rev their loud engines. I had my next door neighbor who owns a 2001 (I believe) Mustang GT AUTO. We're at a light and he revs his engine and I do mine as well. Him and his friends just laugh at how much "quieter" mine sounds. Light turns green, I wait to make sure he's going by giving him a few feet, then I gun it. Blow by him as if he's standing still.

He then asks me how much I weigh and complains that he lost so badly due to the weight. :biglaughb

I thought our E36 M3s would normally kill the GT, let alone an auto. :confused

Grimme33 says that rear engine, rear wheel drive and straight six is the way to go. However, for your information, the BMW has FRONT ENGINE! Porsches have rear engine, but they don't have a straight six, but flat six.

Get it? ;)

I thought Porsche's are mid-engine. Or is that just the Boxster?

Just the Boxter. And of course the Carrera GT with the V10. 911 have rear engine, just like the old beetle.

Ok, Cool there are alot of bad drivers in those cars. Race my brother and then u can see, what will happen to an e46 M3. I have experienced those cars and they are animals you would have been destroyed if that guy launched at idle! Nice job beating one that couldnt drive. But another cobra might bite u one of these days.

I did not move my engine to the rear it was just a comment as to what i believe a true race car should have...

Exactly what SilverStreak said...the driver was beaten, but not the car. I know technically I should have lost. A kill none the less.

ahh those kinda people give us mustang guys a bad name. i think every car has its pros and cons, i own a 98 cobra with a vortech blower, but i want something more efficient and more refined for daily driving now so im gonna go look at a 92 325is that is for sale today. hopefully do a 3.2 motor swap somewhere down the line :D

anyhow good kill, sweet car, that guy obviously has flaws in his human interaction and driving skills

You're going from a 98 Cobra to a 92 325i? Are you sure you want to do that? Why not an M3 and then just upgrade the engine by adding little parts, etc.? I think you'll be happier that way. It may cost more but it won't be that much slower than your Cobra. A 325 will be, IMO. :dunno

sry i didnt explain that well, the motor in my cobra blew because the kid i bought it from told me it was a built sean hyland motor when it was actually a stock motor :shifty , so with 14psi coming from a vortech supercharger and all the other bolt ons it bit the dust after 2 months. while that is in the shop getting rebuilt properly i need a daily driver and the cobra doesnt get the best mileage either so, i will be keeping both. if i had the money to get an M3 i definetly would but im already paying payments on the cobra so i would like to just buy the bmw cash (i only have about 4000 to spend)

hope that clears it up :redspot

That guy sounds like a tool. He gives us cool Mustang drivers a bad rap. With an attitude like that, he deserves to get smoked. Did he have a mullet by any chance?

I believe that guy's car could have been an '03 Cobra and he was just a crappy driver but you also have to think that if he was that big of a tool maybe he just put Cobra badges on his car. Did you look under his hood or even at his front bumper? My friend has an '02 GT that looks exactly like an '00 Cobra R without the badges (he knows improper badging in gay and that I would give him too much shit for that). My favorite is the guys with Cobra badges on their Mustangs but only one exhaust pipe coming out the back. Hmm... that's a mystery. The funny thing is those are the guys that usually talk the most smack, too.

One time I saw a guy with a GT that had a Cobra symbol on it. How did I know it was a GT? Well, because the "4.6L GT" symbol was right next to the Cobra symbol!! So which is it guy? :nono At least choose one or the other.

Good kill, and any kill on some shmo who likes to run his mouth is all the better. This one doesnt really suprise me much. Those '03 Cobras require some amount of skill to get going. Ive seen very inconsistant times at the track (ohhh sayyy 12.7-14.4 for stock cars). But know this.....if you have someone who knows how to row 'em, they are a force to be reckoned with. And god help you if they have mods. Ive seen some of these cars on our dyno this year putting down numbers not to be belived. But like i said, you gotta know your ride. Good kill, keep 'em coming.

Anybody who is talking trash about '03 cobras has obviously not driven one. The straight line acceleration is incredible, this race was definitely a matter of drivers.

 at least it wasn't a "GT-R" badge like I saw on a late 80s convertible 'stang at the races last week.

The "R" in GT-R stands for R-eally LAME! I saw a vid somewhere where a guy had his mustang at a car show. His Mustang had a GTR badge on it and he was describing to a guy that it was a limited edition mustang and it was called a GTR. He didn't know he was talking to a 3-time mustang cobra owner who owned an 03 Cobra. :nono
