:buttrock bought some euro tails from the JY today, 50 bucks.. left one has a 4 inch gash across it, sort of deep.. I tried to cover it up using that red plastic from autozone, its too deep and won't work :( does anyone know a way to repair it? I was thinking of trying to cut out the whole whole part from my old tail light and putting it on the euro one, can this be done?

I have had success with that repair before. What I did was fill the deep scratch with clear epoxy then I sanded and polished it flush. You would need multiple grits of sandpaper and a headlight lens polish kit from autozone.

Any plastic polish will do. you can even just use sandpaper if you are into the 3000 grit wet sanding and such. :)

Should look like new. The one I did came out like new.

how much do i have to sand it down? just until it meets the gash and its filled out?

I would fill the gash with a clear epoxy and then sand the epoxy flush to the rest of the tail lens.

so, sand down, fill gash with epoxy, sand again to make it flush, then use the plastic stuff? how long should the epoxy dry?..

It's cracked... maybe that will still work?

if it is cracked all the way through it probably will not work. You dont need to sand first, just fill and sand but I thought it was a deep scratch and not a crack. I have fixed cracks like that but you can still see them since they fill clear and not red etc.

There are repairs for this. Probly going to need a bunch of research to complete but it'll be worth it

i blended the crack in with epoxy it does look a bit better. i gotta do a bit more cleaning on it for it to come out a bit more... But i honestly am satisfied. From afar, you can't even telll there's anything there.

this will do more than enough until i get the left one replaced. No big deal. :)

Well good. I was reading through the thread, and got worried that trying to sand down the crack would have left a much wider area- and end up being more obvious.

Hitting the whole thing with a few light grit polishes will wake it up a lot too.

I need to use an orbital buffer with the meguires plastic stuff.... It should be fine then... and is there some kinda weird trick to fixing the brake light socket? I can't seem to get it to go in and twist lock, or make the contact on it so the brake light comes on when i hit the brakes, drivers side one works fine.... ( oh and yeah of course given at night it's dark, can't even tell there's anything wrong with it) it looks better..

Snicker...

Seriously though- I've had more than one problem with socket contacts. The best luck I've had is after bending bulb socket contacts, applying dielectric grease- and building up the PC board of the taillight with solder.

The socket Mike is talking about had some melty plastic around it from someone putting way to big/high watt bulb in before

Flashback!!!

As soon as I saw the word "Rare" in the title of this thread, I immediately thought of Ebay and Murad Motors and his ridiculous pricing of used, scratched and cracked items. Then when I saw that you only paid $50 bucks for your item and I knew it wasn't Murad -- because that "rare" item from him would have been $550. Phew!!! Ha, ha, ha...

He puts make offer on his listings but they're always rejected immediately. Wayyyy to overpriced.

He has all the good stuff but its untouchable. I bought a harness from him but he let me return it before it shipped because I said it wouldn't work. He relisted it cheaper after that. Like $50 cheaper. Soooo I bought it. Am I a bad person or did I get one over on him?

What is sad is that apparently, people buy stuff from him. I sent a question a couple of years ago about pricing. He replied with a smart aleck comment and then blocked me (or whatever you do on eBay). What a tool.

He'll be blocking me soon. I harass him all the time about his "make offer" situation. Why offer it if it instantly denies every offer? Rediculous.

Ugg. You should have just stood in the neighbor's yard to take the pic :)

OT- I think the murad guy probably sets the auto decline thing for a few dollars under BIN price. What a joke.
