Gents,

Decided to finally replace the OEM radio today and I think I f'ed something up. Here's the exact sequence of events:

Removed factored radio from dash, cut my finger on that damn sliding bracket, pulled out antenna cable, slid off the other little connector cable. While doing that the radio starts beeping like crazy until I pull the fuse on the back.

Sitting there with the adapter harness and decide to plug it in to the car harness to see how they fit. Dumb. The harness had exposed wires and for a brief second I hear a slight pop and see a wisp of smoke. Pull em apart and move on, pissed I didn't disconnect the battery.

Head inside and connect all the wires as I should.
Head back out and hook everything up, nothing. No power to the unit. That's odd, double check my connections, they're ok.

Try the OEM unit, no power. That, and I throw a "check control owners manual" code. It goes away when I disconnect the radio. Have you guys seen that before? What am I missing? I'm hoping it's something simple.

Car starts fine, lights, windows, roof, all work as they should.

Didn't want to pay Best Buy $65 to install this, now I'm doubting myself.

Thanks in advance guys.

ouch that sucks I believe it means there's an issue with the contacts on the check control or the lkm. Not too sure though the shorting could have fried some things.

Follow up question, I'm using a metra 70-8590, is that the right one? Or should I be using the 70-8591?

Late night browsing has me a bit confused.

I know I have a blue wire and an orange wire coming off the metra with no mate on the pioneer harness and that doesn't seem right.

a pop and smoke indicate you probably, at least should have, blown a fuse. Start by checking them all.

Update. Ross you were right, got under the rear seat and saw that I'd popped fuse 36. Luckily I had some 30 amps with me and replaced it.

So as of now when the stock is plugged in it acts as before and I'm not throwing the code. Wipes forehead.

The new one, still nothing.

Looks like I have the wrong harness. Doing some internetting last night and this morning looks like I need the 70-8591 since I have an amp. I'll try that and see what's what.
