2004 Mini gauges out - any ideas?

THe gauges on my wife's 2004 Mini stopped working today - according to the fuse panel, fuses 5, 9, and 21 (two 5 amps and a 10 amp respectively) control instrument panel power. All of these fuses are intact. IS there a connector bus or other connection somewhere that could have come loose? The car runs fine otherwise - it's got about 105,000 miles on it now.

any one with any ideas for a fix?

THis morning - the HVAC stopped working as well - I'm beginning to think this is a cascading ECU failure of some type; any ideas?

it was a relay in the engine compartment. cost me $45. might be helpful to someone...
