My m5 has been with me for about 2 years and never a problem. A couple of days ago I was running errands and soon leaving the grocery store it wouldn't start. It was like if I were to try to start it without depressing the clutch. I thought it might have been the starter but I tested the starter and all is go there. Next I figured the key might have worn out so I replaced it and alas.... Nothing. I have heard that the alarm has done things like this but no hard facts. Can anyone give me an idea on what I should try next?

Wrong section... but does the engine crank via the starter when you turn the key or is there a click with nothing more?

Have you checked battery voltage with a DMM at the battery? What is it?

Hi you could load up the inpa diagnostic software and vagcom interface and test your car to see which sensor or switch is not allowing the starter to crank you can also read voltage at battery.
