I have 2010 335xi coupe. Warranty expires 12/24/13...

Dealer is willing to sell me an extended warranty of 7yr / 100 k (gold level) for $4270; thus extending my warranty to 12-24-16

I drive about 20k miles a year... Currently have about 30k miles on odometer...

I have already read the other forums of should u buy extended warranty or not... I probably will buy, cuz I have the money today, but in 2 yrs I may not have money to fix a major repair... Also, cuz my car has a turbo...

My main question is Does the dealer give any discounts when selling this type or service, or can I get any freebies in the purchase?? Pls share your experiences.

Pls also comment on your experiences of owning an extended warranty? Was it a waste of money? Or did You come out ahead..

Dealer says no discounts on this purchase cuz they want to keep the price the same across all BMW dealerships... Which is something I would say if I was trying to sell at full price..

When I bought my car it came with CPO which is why i paid a bit more than a non CPO car. I have def used it so far. Its nice getting something repaired for about $50 knowing it would have costed you more. Extended warranty is just extra insurance that if anything goes wrong you don't have to cough up the money then and there. You either pay now or later. If you pay now its factored into the price of the car if you are financing. If you pay later you have to come up with the money in bulk.

The decision ultimately comes down to what you feel comfortable with. You could end up buying it and not using it or not using it to the $4200 you paid. Your transmission could fail and BAM you got your $4200 worth.

who is carring this policy - fidelity, old republic, etc. SOME are worth it and SOME are not. READ the fine print. IT may cover the eng, but not the turbo system as they may say it is not eng related.

you can bet on the dealer is making money on this warranty. but most will stay at the same price to be competitive.

ALSO, just to throw this out there. not all warranties will pay for everything. I have seen them only pay $75.00 an hour (dealer rate is $100 at my dealer) and only pay a certain amount for the part. SO THE dealer will say you owe the rest. I have seen this more than once. EX: water pump goes out. Pump cost $575 and labor is 4 hours. labor rate at your dealer is $100 an hour. so in total the bill would $975 plus taxes and shop supplies. if the warranty only pays $75 an hour and say $350 for the part and no taxes than you owe a min of $350. JUST be careful what company it is, and what they pay/cover.

Yes, I went through this last Friday when buying my 335i. Always ask for a discount on everything (except taxes etc). I asked about what they could do on the extended warranty and they said "We can take $500 off any of these plans." So then I asked for $700 off and they agreed, they wouldn't budge anymore so that was that.

I wasn't so lucky. I bought mine in Braman Miami and apparently the new F&I manager isn't giving any discounts. They were asking way too much for my car. I asked if they could at least throw in the extended warranty for free or even at a discount and that would get the deal done. They said no. After three days of negotiations and the approach of the end of the month I was able to get them to come down on the price. The greedy F&I manager though said he would discount the car but he wouldn't include anything else (i.e. car mats) and the discount really wasn't that good either. I was shocked by his unwillingness to negotiate and in the end I bought the car because I loved it and it was the best deal i could find in the area but it did leave a sour taste in my mouth. I wouldn't recommend going to Braman Miami although my sales guy was really good and in the end he was the dealer's saving grace. Lesson of the day, negotiating in south florida isn't easy due to the high demand for BMWs. Really it all depends on your location and whether the store manager is willing to negotiate. Good luck.
