So, I just had the brakes done and most of the shake at 50 went away. But I have known for a while, that the car needs some new suspension parts. Last time I had Karlyn Upper and Lower Front Control Arms. I was thinking I would go and at least replace the uppers with Lemforder. I have Meyle Ball Joints, sitting and waiting for me. I figure that I should get a few more parts for the rear suspension (Integral Links, Rear Upper Control Arms, Maybe Even New Sway Bar Links). But I was wondering about perhaps some poly bushings.

One question is: Are there control arms that sell with poly bushings already installed? Also, how different are the physical arms themselves, perhaps I could just have the bushings replaced in the arms I got last time.

Another questions is: I heard about some bushings that are as strong as poly, as soft as rubber, but aren't either. Has anyone heard of them, I think I saw them on one of the spike tv shows, ie popular hot rodding or something like that.

The limited market for E39 suspension parts, plus the fact that there are only maybe 2 companies that make poly bushings for E39s, means that you probably wont find any arms with polys already mounted. Just buy new arms, and have the bushings pressed out and install the polys.

Poly bushings are something you'll either love or hate depending on where you drive, and also the bushings position on the car. If you live with bad roads, I'd probably shy away from poly. Poly bushings on arms that are dragged by the car should be fine (like I6 thrust arm bushings), but bushings pushed by the car (like V8 thrust bushings) will transmit a lot of vibration on road impacts.

I dont think I've ever heard of any bushing like that, poly is probably the strongest yet rather flexible material for hard bushings. Rubber with molded holes is the softest, then solid rubber, poly is next, Delrin comes after and is hard as a rock, and after that is spherical bearings which have no give whatsoever.

Poly is about the most I would go for unless you plan for the car to live on the track.
