I have a minor rattle that doesnt happen all the time but every couple of months below the gear shifter. Happens only when i hit bumps, like there is a plastic part loose. It sometimes goes away after i have been driving the car for couple of minutes. Its like the car warms up and the part that is/was rattling stops because of heat/glue/expansion....... So I went on youtube to look how to pull off gear shift knob/plastic console cover, did that but lots of metal and not much plastic. Seems like i would have to do this after i start driving and hear the rattle, pull over and open console and search for what could be making rattle noise. Anyone have any thoughts on what it could be?

Thx in advance.

I'v had were the exhaust shields under the car gets loose and causes a rattle under the car when hitting bumps and you think its in the shifter area, I would check under the car near the transmission tunnel for any loose bolts, rusted shields or anything thats loose thats if you have access to a lift...

will look for loose parts, but would be shocked if part loose. car is 5 years old, garaged, minimal miles. this noise has happened like 3 times in 6 months. will put up later in week and check. rattle doesnt sound like metal rattling. much more like plastic. thx for suggestion

yout could drive the vehicle with the covers off the shifter doesn't effect driving than listen to see if the noise goes away.
