Heat? isnt it right next to plastic?

sigtwenty
04-04-2013, 03:51 PM
Good luck. Wait til its cold to remove it them replace with brass. I noticed on an e46 I was helping on the plastic one would make crunch squeak noises when hot. When it cooled down some it came out easier.

No plastic, its all metal, i pb blasted and soaked the hell out of it, im scares to use vice grips because i dont wanna strip it but i will try tomorrow if the pb does nothing. I have a handtorch but of course i dont play with fire lmao but i guess imma have to risk it and i noticed both fronts are seized in but not the rears.

How does your car not have one.

What's metal? The tank? The screw? If the tank is plastic and sxrew is metal you need a new expansion tank imho

as far as I know, 750's are self bleeding

DUDMD
04-04-2013, 04:26 PM
All e38s in the US use the same expansion tank and screw, same procedure to bleed them.

What the OP is talking about is the brake calipers, they're metal inside a cast caliper. Caleb, you have to be careful to not brake it off in the caliper, or a replacement caliper will be in order.

I know the e32/e34 v8 cars are self bleeding, possibly e32 750. No E38 is self bleeding, they all have bleeder screws.

NO, go to home depot, lowes etc and get a cheap map gas torch. You'll use it more then once ;)

Heat the caliper, then spray w/ pb. let set then do again, work socket back and forth

Another thing, if i have a seized o2 sensor i should take the torch to that too right and how long should i heat them up and when after should i spray pb blaster on the bleeder and o2 sensor?

O2 are even tougher, I go red hot on them but not calipers. PB will ignite so be aware ;)

Some would, some wouldn't...there are a few bleeder screws.

Everyone likes to help, but what about the guy who searches.....Accurate descriptions are the life blood of helping you and any other user that needs help in the future.

Just my thought.

EDIT: Now go get a real wrench and crack the SOB. LOL.!

Dont put any anti seize on the o2 when you put it back. It helps to get out but jacks up the o2

This is a potentialy stupid question but i will ask anyway, if you only changed rear pads do you still have to bleed all four brakes?

I've been a mechanic for many years and generally isn't necessary to bleed your brakes unless your replacing a component or line. I have a tool from snap-on that gently pushes the cups back into the caliper. Now on the other hand if you feel you have air in the system ,a spongy pedal or just want to replace the fluid you must at all cost bleed all calipers starting with the furthest away.

x2 Plus brake fluid should be flushed & changed every other year IMO. Fresh fluid makes a world of difference

Ok, im still giving pb blast some time on both front calipers before i might have to heat them up.

I'm still trying to find time to get out your way. I have the tools you need to get those bleeders loose if you really want to. Heat is definately your friend. Heat em up good and spray pb. Do that a bunch of times because it helps it soak in. Then like said before use a GOOD QUALITY 6 point socket and rock it back and forth till it turns easily.

Ill wait for ya lol, i need to get war machine up to par for inspection, i get my intake gaskets, pcv, abs and brake lining sensors next week tues and wed so my car is on stands with no shoes till then, and i have to heat up my o2 sensor also so i can replace that.

beemer, how bad is the rust situation? Like is there a puffy build up of rust on the brake parts? What do your rotors look like on the side vents? Just curious because I know what that is like since I drive on salty winter roads myself.

I know you want quality and I'm starting to think that if you have a bleeder that rusted shut you may just want to pull the calipers & rotors and do a rebuild. Some sand blasting and powder coating would be amazing as well but just getting it out and cleaned up might be a solid option.

I do all my own brake work and I always regret skipping a repair and having to come right back to it in 70 days etc.

That sucks. Well, you do not have to bleed the fronts anyway since you only did the rear plus like bob said it's barely needed at all. I'm pretty sure that any microscopic amounts of air left in the lines naturally push out over time. Bleeding is just to get them up and running if you manage to get a big bubble in there or if you replace something.

Get yourself a set of long handle 12 point wrenches. The long handled wrench is underrated. They can solve problems like that.

There are also some nice 24v electric impacts now that are fairly cheap and they will pop jesus bolts without breaking a sweat.

Great, thats what i was thinking, i bled the rear left and it went smooth then i when i went rear right smh it took like 7-10 pumps to get fluid flowing out, so i must have had a ton of air in the lines?

Do you have to pass an emissions test in your area? Here it's just a visual and I fortunately have an inspection license
