TroubleCode

Hello guys,

I know, probably I am the hundredth person with the same boring beginner questions. Nevertheless please let me ask and hopefully some of you has mercy and answers ;-)

So, whats all about. I have a BMW 120i from 2005 and I want to perform the following tasks: Read out Error Codes, Code the board computer (display digital vehicle speed,...) and code my mulf high for USB (I already read that mulf coding is not a beginner task).

So therefore my first request is to find a usefully OBD/USB adapter and the right software to read out error messages of my ECUs.

So this is why I now ask the following questions:

- Which OBD/USB cable should I order (which features should be considered)? Maybe you can provide a link to a shop?
- Which kind of software is used for a.) Error messages b.) coding ?

Thank you in advance...TC

The program that your going too want is INPA and NCS expert. installation of these is discussed at huge length in the diagnostic section of this Forum. i'm not sure of the specifics on how to code a 1 series but its all ver similar. if you can read German, you will be at a large advantage lol. Cable wise i'm not a great expert, but i typed into eBay INPA EDIABAS cable and the one i purchased works fine!

Good Luck!

I initially purchased the cheapest $25 K+D CAN cable from Ebay, waited like 10 days, then went through trouble-shooting HELL for like the next 3 weeks because the cable was faulty, but I thought that my computer/software was setup incorrectly.

Of course there were many details in the computer and the software settings that contributed to the need for troubleshooting, but I'd say more than half of all the errors I got were from the faulty cable.

After over a month of frustration, I came to the conclusion that the cable was faulty, and asked on this forum for some recommendations. I purchased the cable from One Stop Electronics (D CAN cable which comes with a separate K CAN adaptor). It's pricier, but it will save you a lot of time from needless troubleshooting.

The cheaper cables seem to be 'hit or miss'(lucky then good, if not lucky then you're goin' to HELL for a while!). I'm only like a month and a half ahead of you in terms of starting time, and thought you'd be better off not losing like a month of your time to Stier Scheiße like I did.:D
