Hey guys. I recently purchased a 95 325is. It wasn't in the best running shape when I got it and ive been changing the things that seem like common problems on these cars. So far ive switched the valve head gasket, spark plugs, ripped tubes and couplings under the hood, fuel filter and other small parts here and there. My dilemma began when I was changing the fuel filter, while I was under the car I noticed the o2 sensor had metal wire wrapped around it as if it was being held by that wIre. well turns out it was. So I ordered a new o2 sensor and installed it today. I had driven over 1000 miles with the old burned o2 sensor just hanging there and the check engine light never turned on. Now after about 40 miles with the new sensor the cel came on with 1221 (bad o2). I know it might be a bad o2 my question is why did the cel never come on with the old o2 sensor that wasn't even installed correctly? I tried searching but came up with nothing. Any help would be appreciated.
