Warning light

Folks,
I had a yellow oil warning light come on a month ago,it has re-appeared with an additional 11+ or + 11 message.
Anyone shed any light on as to why it has taken a month to re-surface,what does the 11 + mean and what kind of oil do I need?I've done 56,000 miles.

Thanks for the replies.Topped up with 1 litre of oil and all is well.
