I have a 2009 E92 which was a life long dream to own, but it has the most annoying rattle or squeak from the dashboard.

It has the 1 year used BMW warranty, and has been back to the dealer but they were useless.

It is very easy to replicate.

Squeak comes from here. It sounds like two surfaces rubbing together.

To replicate the sound, push dashboard immediately behind the steering wheel towards the windscreen.

It is also worse when the heater is set to blow air on the windscreen.

Now I can partly fix this if I stick cardboard between the dash and the windscreen, but honestly is this the solution for the Ultimate Driving Machine?!

Anyone else had this? Please help i'm desperate!

I had this or very similar issue. There is no easy way out if it's the same one I had. There are couple metal 3" or so long hooks the dashboard slides into. The dashboard itself is rubbery material so it would normally make lots of nasty noises if it was to rub against the metal hooks directly, so that's why there are felt sheets in between. Unfortunately on some cars the sheets are installed border line and the cars develop the noise over time.
Mine would do it if I push the dashboard as you described and on turns as the car frame twists. Eventually I got pissed off enough and fixed it myself by taking the dashboard out, felting the hooks and some more stuff and remounting. It took 3 hours to take off everything (never done it before) and 1.5 hours to mount back in. My car was out of original warranty at the time so I doubt they would have done squat under CPO, and then I'm not so sure if I really want them doing it... An independent shop quoted me 8 to 10 hours of labor BTW...

I had a similar issues in my 2007. I ended up putting foam in the crack just to the right of your right knee on the lower dash.
