View Full Version : Is LCM III fixable?

For the 2001 + years e39, the part is called LCM III, I believe. It doesn't have the protruding heat sink. There 2 p/n:
One is for factory equipped HID lights: 61356961142
The other is for non-HID lights: 61356961141

I might have some issues with it. However, I was reding that these type of LCM might not be serviceable like the LCM II counterparts, where one would replace the VN750-E chip (was called Infineon Mosfet chip) - this is the new nomenclature (found at Mouser Electronics (http://ca.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=VN750-E)).

Can anybody confirm/infirm this? Has anybody attempted and repaired or failed to repair LCM III? I am really not looking forward to buy a new 500+ $ part, or finding a used one which will last God knows how long, plus the added headache of trying to re-code it (must find one with LESSER mileage than mine - which in itself is a chore).

More info is welcome. I might have it wrong.

Thanks

Kinda worthless, imo. Just get another one from ebay and re-code with PASoft. You even can get LCM IV if you want (from 2006 X5), it will have some additional features (like triple blinks line changing signal).

Just get a used one from the junkyard. An LCM III or IV from an e38, e39, or x5 will work.

I've got a spare laying around, I can hook you up, I would even pop it into my car to code it for you if you wanted.

I just bought a used LKM IIIb from off the forum for $75. I posted a WTB ad and got a reply same day.

You might need the LCM IIIB because your car is so new.
