Just bought a 2008 BMW 335i convertible. Absolutely beautiful car. I have had the car for three weeks now and after rotating, balancing and re aligning the tires.. I can't get rid of the vibration on the highway. I brought the car to a local mechanic (rather than the dealer I purchased it from) and he had brought to my attention that three of the four wheels had been cracked, welded and are cracking again. Has anyone ever heard of this before? Any suggestions on what I should do?

Have warranty with dealer? If so take it back and make them put new wheels on it. Thats garbage.

I don't technically have a warranty with them but i'm within their 30 day money back/exchange period. It's a Herb Chambers dealer, pretty large and fairly reputable. They don't want to replace the wheels. The SA tried to tell me that because they cracked and have been welded, they're stronger than factory. The guy must think I'm an idiot. I've done some research, it looks like this is common with Run Flat Tires. I'm really hoping they come to their senses.

You better handle this 100% firmly as they will do whatever it takes to get out of the 30 day period. I'd tell them you want a refund for the car since they are stronger yet exibiting issues... Good Luck!

I'm currently in a rental of theirs. I'm hoping that because I reported the problem before the 30 day period that I'll be safe.. Better yet, I will just refuse to return the loaner until they replace the wheels. Totally ludicrous.

Schiffer did you happen to buy this car from the HC in Shrewsbury? If so, they will do anything to drag their feet. They totally suck and would never ever give Herb Chambers business ever again.

Did you have a pre-purchase inspection done of the vehicle at an indy shop? Best $100 I spent for piece of mind when I purchased my 08 328i used last month. If you did, I would question that mechanic as to why the wheels were not checked and see if that person will help you.
Be firm but polite. Get the Dealership General Manager, the Service General Manager both involved. Ask to meet with both of them together.
Be prepared with estimates on what new OEM wheels cost (assuming they are OEM) and what they would cost if you were able to purchase them as OEM reconditioned wheels. Since you don't have a warranty they technically aren't under any obligation to help you, but you can maybe bargain and have them meet you in the middle of the two prices, then get a check from them and scoop up some wheels.
At the least they should be selling you a car that can safely and comfortably drive on the road.
