I picked up some wheels to spiff up, but I'm in new territory in a sense... I'll explain. They're BBS Style 5s (17x8's in case you're curious), but they've been chromed. Either they were done badly, or they have not had an easy life since then. Either way, I intend to strip them down, polish the lips and powder coat the centers. I'm not new to restoring BBS wheels, but I'm definitely new to taking chrome off... that's what I'm looking for help with. Advice, warnings, whatever you got.

This is what I have going on with 2 of the 4 wheels... the chrome is separating from the wheel and crinkling up in places.

Aircraft Stripper is supposed to work well on the faces you could probably use it on the lips as well, just be careful and wear a mask that shit is nasty

I don't think that's gonna work for the lips. It may take most of it off, but chromium is bonded to the metal by electroplating. In the spots where the chrome hasn't started to separate, I don't think it will work without damaging the wheel.

I'm really hoping to get some advice from someone who maybe works in a chrome shop... any other ideas for removing it at home?
