I found this thread but he never mentions your wire color combination. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?589134-Replace-your-O2-Sensor-for-35&highlight=econoline+O2+sensors

Wrong sensor. Sorry. You bought one for an OBDI car. Your sensor is OBDII. Return it and get the right one. Go on Amazon and get one. Make sure it has the correct color wires. I think I paid about $65 for mine last summer.

How can his 93 be OBDII?

HMMMMM.....good point. His old sensor is an OBDII sensor. The sure way to tell is to look at the sensor itself. The sensor end of a OBDI sensor is rounded/dome shaped. The OBDII sensor is squared off. Definately NOT dome shaped.

That's not the sensor. It's only the connector.

Just as I suspected. That looks like an OBDII sensor. I bet the new one looks different.

I was asking if the wires to the old sensor were spliced onto the connector like you're trying to do. It sounds like they were not. In any case I believe you have the wrong sensor. The wire colors should match. I can tell you that on the new sensor the 2 white wires are for the heater. The black is your signal wire and gray is ground for the signal. The 2 white wires do not have polarity. So once you figure out which wires on the old connector are for the heater you can hook them to either of them. Ive never been a fan of the universal sensors. In the end you spend more time and effort than you save by simply getting the correct one.
If I were you I would return that sensor and get the correct one with its own connector already installed.

After doing some searching I found this:
Yellow sensor signal (5v) Black
Black senor ground Grey
Red Heater +ve (12v) White
White Heater -ve White
Ive tried using universal sensors and it didn't work for several reasons I wont get into. The good news is that if you install that thing and it doesn't work you'll only burn out/destroy the sensor. you wont do any damage to the car. The bad news is once you touch that sensor you can't return it and you're out the $35-$50 you spent on it.
