I have been putting this off far too long. customer came in last week with a really bad fan clutch. It was enough to give me the nudge to STFU and do the job. I have had all this stuff sitting in the back for a year just collecting dust. I believe I have it all ready to complete the job. Im trying to find some matte/poly/nylon electrical tape to make the wiring look more at home. Spal did a great job with the harnesses that came with the PWM so cleaning up should be at a minimal. Going with a new radiator and used nuts and bolts instead of rivets to attach the shroud to the radiator. With the rates of Behr failures still fresh on my mind, Im not in the mood for repeated rivet drilling. The radiator in the car has about 3k miles on it. The smart thing would have been to use the same radiator but I tend to chase "chance" and decided to go with a fresh new rad. Plus it gave me some time see how the new rad mates up to the shroud. So if anyone needs a new rad on the cheap, let me know as the one coming out of the car will sit in a corner collecting dust as well.
Im attaching some pics of the major players in this project. Im probably going to start on it this afternoon or sometime tomorrow. Car is going in for a hood respray. New Calipers.. Slimmbones lip is getting painted and installed too. New headlights because old ones are a bit cloudy. So going to change them out. Going non hella which Im really cringing at the idea of non oem. I wanted the newer projectors and brighter angels. No amount of money spent on angel eye bulbs can make them brighter than actual LED rings.
Onwards to the pics. I shall have more as the work progresses.

Try electrical splice tape. Its made of a thin neoprene like rubber with a stamped matte finish. Its meant to be waterproof as well.

Yep I have seen that stuff. Actually there is some really good stuff in 3M's lineup but no one really has it locally. Even my plethora of suppliers are trying to send me the usual electrical tape. They dont listen lol.

Looks good...
have you tried one of those buffing compounds on your headlights?

Yeah a couple of times. It came out pretty good actually. But within months it went back to being slightly cloudy again. Dont get me wrong, they are in mint condition but there were other factors in changing them out. I wanted the euro corners and wanted the brighter AE's. I had put DJautos with brighter AE's on my M5 and fell in love with them. I still have yet to take these out of the box. Had them for almost 6 months. Dont even know if they arrived without damage. I should do an unboxing on them. They are from Umnitza with the FX projectors and ultra bright (whatever version it is) AE's. Had them filmed as well for protection. The biggest gripe is that the ones on the car already have the aluminum adjusters. That bugs me.

You know I keep underestimating the "Power of the Home depot". I should really go there tonight since they are the folks who "Get it done".

Is that the zionsville shroud and electric fan set up or some other company?

I thought about you and this project just today when I had an E38 towed in. Brand new plates. Brand new stereo system. Brand new dents in the hood. Used radiator, clutch, and fan.... a leaking cooler and a fried transmission.

Thats how they all come in here. Especially the E38/750il's. Hi level "flossing' but everything mechanical gets put on the back burner. We have one here right now with a cooked trans. I warned him 8 months ago that it would get worse. "Its ok dawg, just A to B". I dont get it, Randy.

Nice....!
What is up with your lower radiator hose picture...?
And, care to give a little description before each picture, so we know what is going on...?
:D
What calipers are you installing...?
What brake pads do you have on the car now...?
I will take your aluminum headlight adjusters...
:D
Thanks!

Hey Jason,
The rad hose shows the "spliced" in temp sensor fitting. That is what the pwm will patch into and the factory sensor will remain in place to keep everyone happy. Actually painting the front brake calipers. Might go with MonteCarlo blue. Its the BBK I put in almost two years ago. Thought since the car is going under the knife, might as well get a couple of things sprayed. As for the adjusters, you'd have to buy the lights to go along with it. They were put in with precision since they cant be baked open. Once I see how the new lights look, I will make the decision to either go back to the old ones or sell them.
Once I start the install, you will get a better idea of whats going on. I will take notes.

I give it 6 months before you stab yourself in the ear so you don't have to listen to that spal fan. Lol
They get the job done, not quietly though.

LOL. I ran for a long time with my Spal unplugged due to the noise. The neighbors had dubbed the car "the Harrier". When I was in there doing other work, I figured out that the damned PO had installed the two speed Zionsville kit backwards and upside down. Once it was wired as a puller (!!) and low/high were in the correct order, it became much quieter. With that PWM controller Gumbs has there, it should be barable.

Hey Ken...!
Glad to see you around here again...! :D
I have not seen you posting here for a LONG time... :(
Anyways...
I forgot you have the 2003 headlights, that are not able to bake open in order to replace the adjusters...
I had one of my stock 35w H8 fog light bulbs burn-out recently, and I trying to decide whether I want to replace it with another stock bulb, or go HID...
mmmmm.......
Regarding your lower radiator hose and splice....
Where did you get the slice from...?
Any more pictures of the splice and hose...?
And, I remember your K-sport BBK...
Were the brake pads also made by K-sport...?
I really like the look of this setup...

I will take more pics of the splice fitting. I got it locally but there are so many on ebay. I believe Alex posted a link up a few months ago.
The BBK is from K-sport but I changed out the pads to REd Stuff pads which are superb. No noise or dust and bite like mad. The rear setup is still using stock rotors but went steel lines and Centric rotors and pads which is our shop favorite brand. They make damn good products. If I had waited, I would have went with the BMW performance caliper setup with floating rotors that has been advertised recently. Im going to paitn the ones I have first. If it irks me, I will change them up.
The links you posted seems like a really clean setup. Stock but pretty.

Adding to Topaz's electrical tape post, I started using silicone electrical tape about 6 years ago and to me it is absolutely amazing-it has a matte finish, sticks to itself (no adhesive) and permanently bonds to itself after 24 hours. After that period of time you have to cut it apart. Of course it is waterproof.
It is very hard to find in local stores. The only place that stocks it locally is a marine hardware store. Otherwise I buy it online-would you believe that Duluth Trading, the clothing seller, carries it at a pretty good price. It is expensive but worth it in my mind.
I did Alex's mechanical fan delete on my wife's car last fall. It turned out super. I've had the parts to do mine since then and it will get done this Spring. Good luck with your conversion. The parts all look excellent.

+1!
I've got a list of crap that needs to be addressed. Nice to see your getting some stuff done and even nicer that you didn't sell her.
