So I finally had the driver side bulb go out for the factory angel eyes a few months back. So I bought the the $50 BMW only bulb to replace the burnt one. Well I should have bought both because by the time I drove home the right bulb gave up the ghost. So I bought a second one a week or so later and installed both at the same time while I replaced the tension/compression arm bushings. Well this past weekend my wife drives up and I can see that the drivers side bulb is out again! Seriously?

I do not have any corrosion or anything weird that would cause the bulb to have issues like this. I cannot find any related TSB's or anything like that for this problem but Im not about to pay $50 for a third bulb so it lasts only the week. Im temped to put some resistors in the sockets and delete these things and bypass the dash alert.

Yeah Im a little ticked that it was $100 for a set of stupid halogen bulbs. Another temptation is to take the old bulbs and cut them to fit some H7 bulbs but Im unsure that the wattage's would be compatible since the originals are BMW only bulbs and I cannot get specs on them or buy them for cheap at a local parts store. Thats near half a tank of fuel for a stupid non-essential lamp that Id be potentially tossing to the wind if there is some hidden problem.

Anyone experienced an issue like this? Got something for me to try? Im open to whatever other than paying $50 for another bulb. I dont care if the solution is $100 per side as long as I dont have to be stuck with a proprietary design anymore.

Sometimes these cars are brilliant and sometimes the engineers out-think themselves.

Thanks

Ray

LUX E90 V5.2

They are more pricey but they look good. Avoid WeissLicht. I'm on my 2nd pair from Bimmian. I sent the first pair back because I kept getting the warning light despite being advertised as error free. The 2nd pair are still giving me the error but I receive enough utility it's not worth spending more just to try another pair.

Your OEMs are 35 watt bulbs which should be stamped on the bulb itself.
I have replaced my 35 watt halogens with the LUX H8 V 3.0 and they are very close to the LCI new 2010 versions. Those bulbs have 10 times the life of the halogens so once in should never need changed...
