So I just bought 4 rims including tires from a guy 2 hours away. The add said the tires where good. However after getting there I found this on the tire.
I bought them anyways since I liked the rims (other then the mark your see in the picture).

He took this rims off his car in front of me. So I know he was using them and he said he as been driving with them.

Paid over $430+ for the rims including gas.

Anyways do you think the tires are safe to drive on? or should I replace them?

Also if I replace just this one does the other one have to be the same model of tire? or can it just be the same brand?

BTW. This is for my daily driver which is all wheel drive.

Not safe!
The pic seems to be showing your sidewall (on the inner side, towards the hub). I would be concerned with the integrity of the side wall.
Since you have an awd drive vehicle, I would suggest at least 2 tires but the best would be all 4 if your budget permits.
Is the rim damaged also? Do they balance out ok? It looks like there was considerable damage to the rim as well.
Good luck and be careful.

I agree. I skimp on things, but tires is not one of them. Don't find yourself stranded on the freeway over the cost of a tire.

See if you can find that exact same tire, used, on ebay. Then at least you still have 4 used tires for the time being - until you're ready to buy all 4 new ones.

If you are questioning the integrity of the tire then it is probably not safe.
