Hi guys, I recently bought 2009 328i e92 and the fuel consumption on my BC is 13 city... I went to the bmw dealership twice and the guys there said that there isn't a problem with it but I think otherwise... Do anyone knows a solution for this... ?

Welcome and enjoy your ride, you didn't buy it for the fuel mileage, right? My 2012 328IX E91 gets from 13-15 mpg , but I'm driving fast all the time here in Germany! :D

My wife bought the same car about a month ago. Hers is an auto. You know your driving style better than anyone else - are you driving with your foot on the floor, or as if there's an egg between your foot and the accelerator?
It's possible to get 13 MPG if you push it hard all the time. It's easy to do better if you drive easily.
With a "new" car, you're going to have to drive it for a while. But if you are taking really easy on the gas and can't push 30 MPG on a straight 200-mile freeway cruise, and get high teens when you're NOT in stop-and-go traffic, you may have a problem.

Recently upgraded from a 2000 328i to a 2010 3281X (both manuals) and while I love the car, fuel efficiency has been a bit of a disappointment thus far. My old 328i was a RWD and I typically did about 21mpg in a mix of local and highway driving. My new X-drive gets about 17+ in similar driving. Not a surprise given the AWD, but I was hoping a decade of improved technology and a 130,000 fewer miles would have gotten me at least even. Haven't had the chance to do a long, highway run yet to see what it'll do there. My old RWD did about 31 hwy on it's best days. I'm guessing the new one will go about 27-28 at best. The 2013's have employed a bunch of fuel saving features (like electric power steering) to get better numbers but I've heard that doesn't give the same road feel.

I picked up a 2009 328xi this past Monday evening. I refueled with half a tank left simply because I was curious to calculate what my gas mileage was this morning. It came out to about 19.5 MPG with what would normally be about 60%-70% highway driving. I don't have the lightest foot either.
A few things to note though:
-The car spent a lot of time sitting and idling while the dealer showed me all the functions of the car
-I sat in a lot of stop and go traffic on Thursday morning.
-I think the dealer may have put regular gas in it when they delivered it to me. I filled the car up and even with half a tank of premium mixed in with whatever was in there before, it already felt better to drive (or my mind could be playing tricks on me).
In any case, 12-13 MPG seems awfully low! As others have mentioned, other things to consider are driving style, traffic patterns, etc.

You guys only use premium gas?

I had a 2010 328i sedan and 18 on the road and 21 on the freeway. I just got a 2011 328i coupe and I am averaging 15.5 and I haven't really pushed the speed on this one like I on the other one.

Its a bmw, not an eco friendly toyota. Don't be suprised with the low mpg, I get 14 mpg if I'm lucky with the traffic on the way to school. I don't think anything is wrong. Changing the driving style is probably your best choice. Pre-plan route, cruse to stops, slow starts, all that stuff.

It's not the car, its you. I hit +30 mpg on the highway but dip below 18 in the city. If something was wrong you'd know. When was the last oil change, air filter, MAF cleaning, and spark plugs? If you do that and you don't see a significant change its your driving style.

2009 328i: 25 mpg avg overall - 85% highway; embarrassingly light foot; My computer shows around 30 while on the highway and ~18 in the city.

You guys only use premium gas?
I do. BMW recommends 91 octane, and around here, regular is 89 and premium is 92. It's worth the .30 (+/-) a gallon more. So a fill up costs $48 vs $44. I get about 16 - 18 city and 28 or so on the highway. Not great, but better than my 8 series!

move to the country.
srs.
You live in (one of) the most populous areas in the country with shitty traffic nearly any time of day.
Stop and go is the bane of good fuel economy. 13 is :dunno bad, but being stuck in stop and go driving and idling a lot will make that happen.

Try a tune up and I lighter foot. I have been averaging 20-21 mpg, mixed driving in my 94 525

I get very good mileage. Has to be your heavy foot.

I get 22 / 23 when doing mostly city and bit of highway with my 328xi. I can get 28+ if on interstate. If I have any type of lead foot, under 20 is not unusual.

You guys only use premium gas?
Absolutely. The filler says "Premium gas". Don't run lower octane and take a chance.
And after a couple of 100+ mile high trips, I can report our gas mileage on our 09 328ix seems to be running around 25-26 MPG.

2010 328i xdrive and I posted 34.5 calculated mpg on a 645km round trip from Edmonton to Calgary, that was including some time spent in the downtown core. In vancouver traffic, I've been averaging 21-27mpg on the obc, and I'm aggressive. Seems to depends where I'm driving, a highway trip into the mountain with many alt. changes still gave me 29mpg and that was a lot of time spent in 3rd and 4th.
Not gonna say there's something going on with your whip, gonna stick with the rest and suggest driving habits.

On my computer it showed around 23-24 around the city, but I get about 30 on the freeway. I usually drive around 75mph on the freeway. For me it's a wash. I came from a Subaru Forester, which if I'm conservative, drive no faster than 70mph, and I have a good tailwind, I'll probably get 27mpg, but a solid 20 around town. The E90 gets better mileage, but take premium.
I can't win.

If you can't afford the few extra bucks for premium gas you shouldn't own a BMW. That is universal for any car that takes premium.

I can, and I have been. I owned an E30 before, so I know what I was getting into.
I was merely stating a comparison between the two cars, don't assume that I can't afford my car.
