For those folks with a E39, take note.
I had a slow but constant leak on my intake manifold
plastic coolant pipe. Mine leaked from the aft (firewall) side.
Mine was poop brown and was installed 13 years ago.
I changed mine out today and the front end that plugs into the
engine block, broke in half during removal.
It didn't leak there, but would have in the near future.
The material that was there was goopy and a razors edge thickness.
Those pipes are a complete engineering failure from BMW.
They are made of plastic, they are bolted to the hot engine, and they have
A life expectancy of 10 years. I was surprised that mine didn't leak more.
The job to change it out is a bugger. I am doing a overkill job but I should have
a very reliable car when finished.
