I have a Garret t25 on my 318ti and I checked out my engine this weekend because it was making weird noises. I finally found out what the noise was it was my turbo turbine chipping apart. the turbine is gone and the housing has dents from the debree. Is this fixable or do I need a new turbo? I was thinking in buying a reuild kit and polishing the dent out. Is that possible, if so can i replace the internals w/ ballbearings? any suggestions or tips would be great.

Sounds like your turbo took a crap.It could be from impropertuning causing too much heat. ATP turbo sells those turbos cheap and can also rebuild yours (good luck)

upgrade to a bigger turbo

Go for a GT-25R or GT-28R

A bigger turbo probably won't help. Turbine blades will disintegrate if they get too hot.

Yes, you will need a new turbo, but you also need some better tuning and/or fuel delivery to correct the problem....otherwise its only going to get worse with a bigger turbo.

I'd hate to see you spend a $1,000 or more on a nice ball bearing turbo only to have the same thing happen again.

Damn, I remember you posting a few weeks back about how you just got that turbo kit.

I was thinking of going for the Gt28 R but I want to find out where I went wrong first. I had the turbo both water and oil running thru it. I had the fuel presure regulator set at 5 instead of 4.5oem and I chaged the spark plugs every 2000miles. Could it be that the shitty intercooler that came with the kit was too small? I wanted to lower the piston compresion before upgrading the turbo but shit I guess I might as well do it. Any suggestions?

How much psi of boost are/were you running? Intercooler size?

I believe that the IC size is close to 10x6x2. pretty small. I was running 7psi of boost. I want to replace the IC at the same time the turbo is changed. what else is there to make the turbo cooler other than a oil cooler?

Maybe the intercooler was'nt cooling enough and overheated the turbo? I'm gonna follow Jim and get an Audi 5000 Intercooler customized. That should be good enough for low boost systems.
