Radio wire harness adapter

Noob in need of help please.... Just purchased a 2001 525i... Factory radio was removed and and I am trying to install an aftermarket one.. Been going around in circles trying to find the correct adapter harness.. I've searched but can't seem to get a solid answer... I have the r40 factory harness..any links that can help would be greatly appreciated. I can't believe it is this difficult to plug and pay a new radio.

what equipment is located in the left rear cover in the cargo area, if any? do you have the flip down cover for the radio, or does it look like the car had the navigation unit installed?

I'm not sure in deezy9's case but in mine I've got the flip down cover and the amp in the trunk.

In case anyone is wondering, the part number for the harness that attaches to the one shown in the image is the Metra 70-9003 and it's dirt cheap on amazon.com
