I got a nasty chip about 3/4" long, from a flying rock. I was going to get it sealed, if possible, the very next day. Didn't make it, the next morning it had already spread about a 6", so much for repair.

I called BMW service, they directed me to Speedy or Apple, as they outsource it in any case.

When I called they asked the usual questions, model and year but surprised me when they asked if I had the lane departure sensor/camera behind mirror, YES, and then asked if I had HUD, YES, ohh he said gonna be a costly one, about $1100 installed. Is there a special treatment or window if there is a heads up display?

He said would be a couple days to have it ready, fine. He called me back within an hour and said because my car was so new, no one had any stock, not here in Toronto. Would have to be ordered direct from Germany, about 4 weeks. It arrived a few weeks ago, but I am in no rush at this point, figured I may as well wait out the winter and have it done in early spring, unless it spreads further, so far has not changed. I know if the police stop me, it's illegal to drive with cracked windshield. The installer is ok with me waiting, I already paid deposit.

They assured me no problem with replacing window, sealed like new, lifetime against leaks and so on. I have only had a side window replaced, never front windshield. Any one have any experience with replacements. I was told not like factory installed? Do I need to worry or no big deal?

As long as the installer removes all of the remaining glue after taking out the original glass, it'll likely be fine.

Just had to do this for my '13 X5. It was going to me ~£1100 since we are currently living in the UK. But after calling our insurance company we only paid ~£300 and it didn't go against our record. But here we are 1 month later and the damn think has been cracked again. I don't know what is up with this country and their flying rocks. I just hope this is the last one and they stay away from my F30.

Same, here, total cost was $1100 Canadian, my deductible was $300. My broker told me not a problem to claim as the windshield is covered under the comprehensive portion and guaranteed me it would not affect my premiums.

I was more concerned about the fit and seal of a replacement?
