Today I did a lot of work to my car. I've had a metal scraping sound while driving. Louder in gear than rolling in neutral. The sound comes from the differential. Changed the fluid and the old fluid had silver specs in it. not good. Sound did not go away with new fluid.
Speedometer stopped working a few weeks ago. I wonder if this is related.
So do I need another diff? if so anyone selling a 3.46 LSD for 535i?

Sounds like bearing material. Enough of it would foul the speed sensor which should be okay once cleaned off.
Get in line for a med. case 3.64(46?) LSD
For what it's worth, I've seen and heard diffs with bad pinion bearings(I suspect this is your issue)go for a VERY long time.

I guess you'll need a new diff soon enough.. Speed sensor is on it so I would bet your problems are related.
I have a 3.46 lsd of of my old 535 for sale. Anyone? I'm in canada though. And an m30 with the 5 speed tranny. (just plugging it in there)
