What could you guys tell me about these cars. I am really I interested in one at the moment. It's silver with white interior. Had 89k on the clock. The guy says needs a little work. So I'm waiting on his response. What do you guys think.

They're great cars. As for the example you're interested in, we'd need more details before being able to give an opinion.

Do you have specific questions about them?

Well like maintenance. Suspension. Most common issues. What wears out the quickest. Typical questions.

Find out if it has the original leveling suspension system, their apparently a pain and stop working around or before then (never had to deal with it because my car came with an aftermarket setup when I bought it, don't know how easy it is to bypass).

I bought mine with 115k and had to do a bunch of bushings and control/thrust arms, some of which was expensive and hard to find (definitely take it on the highway before you buy, see if you get any vibrations). Find out when the last valve adjustment was, important to keep up on those for any car but especially these. Also find out if the cooling system has been done, if not that'll need to happen soon.

You get a lot of car for your money, but be prepared to put more in (for things that'll go wrong and for gas, my m5 gets worse mileage than my truck, although to be fare it does have a bigger engine!) Good luck and definitely post up what he say's is wrong with it.

Oh I've seen that one on Craigslist

Its the one in Posen IL right?

I talked to the guy last year and he said there is a shimmy, so something to do with brushings, mounts idk

The seller doesn't seem to know much about the car and the maintenance of the car is unclear, but an M5 at that price is pretty nice.

Get to know more about it and snatch it up before anyone else does :p

I'll add one something too, my M5 is also pretty sh!t on fuel economy, on average i do 250 miles on a full tank (23 Gallon Tank).
- Just something to know when you buy an M5, if the previous owner didn't do cooling system maintenance, and never really pushed the car hard, than you pick up the car and start driving it the way it should be driven :D you will most definitely start getting coolant leaks from radiator, blown rad hoses and such.
E34 M5 cooling system parts are pretty expensive too, 300$ for the waterpump, 280$ for rad, 70$ for thermostat etc.

Make sure the cooling system was done. And the clutch too.

That car is in the Midwest. Salvage title as I recall. Was in Michigan for a bit. Looks great. But the title is fishy. Exhaust was missing I believe.

I can't believe y'all are getting such bad mileage?

I average 20mpg per tank. 375 miles between fill-ups.

Sounds like y'all have some maintenance that needs to be carried out.

I get 26mpg on long runs to south Texas. 18-21 in the city, and mine is heavier and usually has a payload of two in the back seat or something or other in the way back.

valve adj, vacuum lines, MAF, plugs and wires all good?

Of course not. That stuff's expensive!!!!

Valve adj $600 to buy tools and kit, or to pay a shop. Vac lines, $120 for silicon kit, $100 new check valves, and $70 for hose to crank case vent. MAF rebuild $320. Wires $300. Cap and rotor $100. Plugs $35. Throttle balancing carbtune $100. Coil $90. New O2, $100.

Total = ~ $2,000.
