trying to diagnose my extremely long crank times, crappy idle and occasional bump while cruising. If this forum is only for dealing with diagnostic software install and use issues then LMK and I will post in the E66 forum.

Just replaced in-tank LPFP and the fuel filter with the FPR in it. The two HPFPs are not suspect (yet).

The MAF readings at idle in INPA are off the right end, out of range (! somewhere between 19 and 25) , but I am wondering if this is why:

I clear engine codes and check them again while the problem is occurring at idle and get, (in German)

2846 CDKANSKE -ansteuerung ansaugklappe

kein signal oder wert
testbedingungen erfuellt
fehler momentan vorhanden und bereits gespeichert
Diagnose aktiv
Zyklus-flag gesetzt

The closest I can get in Google translate is:

"electronically reversible inlet flap"

no signal or value
test conditions met
errors currently available and already stored
diagnosis active
Cycle-flag set

(I get no translation for, and cannot find on Google: "cdkanske" what does that mean? error code? )

or, when I search Google, I cannot exactly find "ansteuerung ansaugklappe", but I get

1] Ansteuerung und Regelung der Drosselklappe (auch E-Gas genannt)

2] Elektrik Ansteuerung Drosselklappe

in English:

1] Control and regulation of the throttle valve (also called E-gas)

2] Electric throttle control

-------

It is interesting to note one of the Electronic throttle bodies (defect code 1354071200) was replaced on this car at only 55K miles. Plus, the TBs them selves have sharpie markings on them for #1 and #2. Someone was futzing with them. I bought the car with 100K, Now the car has 135K. I cannot tell from the documentation which was replaced.

I need to know

0] is "ansteuerung ansaugklappe" indeed an electronic throttle body? I'm willing to bet $10 US it is. I had removed the upper plenum recently, and I did just check--both TBs are indeed plugged in and the plugs seem snug.

1] can a malfunctioning TB give the MAF the out-of range readings?

2] how can I poll the TB devices directly and individually, to check their function, using INPA?

3] why, since my car has 2 MAFs, does unplugging the pass side result in no change to the engine running, but also, no indication on INPA in the N73 analog section, but... unplugging the driver's side results in no MAF readings on INPA and a change in engine behavior? Is it only reading one MAF, or is one dead?

4] for that matter, how can I poll each single MAF to check it's function as well? or is unplugging them and observing no change, the indication the MAF is dead?

Thanks in advance.

After driving am also getting

raildruckregelung

ansaugluft temperatur

Heissfilmluftmassenmesser

ansteuerung motor e luefter

which Google says is:

rail pressure control

intake air temperature

Hot-film air mass meter

fan control motor e

"ansteuerung ansaugklappe error 2846" is also known as 2846 in INPA on the N73, but it is known in English as the "Auxiliary Air Valve" in DIS.

There is another section in DIS for the Throttle position, so I don't think it is the electronic throttle bodies any more.

I "think" it is these two plastic-- about 1.5"-- trumpet/horn-looking things with a vacuum-actuated butterfly valve that they have (on the V-12 air boxes only), that point towards the firewall, and give the user a buzzy engine noise when the car is at WOT. I hated that sound. Kinda like a mechanical version of the piped-in 2013 M5 engine noise. They run off the auxiliary vacuum pump, probably like the exhaust flap does. Similar idea. Trust me. I looked it up and V-8s and E60-62s do not have them either.

Don't worry, they suck hot air, before the filter. Another reason to turn them off.

I disabled the little butterfly flaps by detaching the vacuum lines and clamping them off at the sensor. I took a bet the engine would run just as well, and for weeks, it did. I am 99% sure this is what the 2846 error is. Had no idea the sensor might have a closed loop on the single vacuum solenoid running them.

I think the engine startup and fuel rail and (now) spark plug misfire errors have nothing to do with little "ansteuerung ansaugklappe".

In fact, I will get off my butt and re-attach the torn vacuum lines (no, they are not sucking air) for ansteuerung ansaugklappe and see if the error does not magically disappear, and I'll be back to listening to the unpleasant buzz of the V12 at WOT.

...which I would totally understand...
