I've been on various forums since the mid 90's back when they were called message boards and mailing lists.
Anyhow, in the last few years, I've seen more and more of these "feeler" threads.
Why do people do this? I mean its either an item for sale or its not. I find this moreso with people selling cars.
Am I missing something? :dunno

I did this when I started making and selling the dome lights to see if there was interest in it.... I think I really depends on the thing they're feeling for .. Like you said for a car it's weird ... People trying to get more money then they should IMHO

I could see them doing it for car that are pre 1993... KBB only goes back 20 years so if they don't really know the value of their car, it would be good figure that out before listing it on craigslist and letting it go for way under it;s value.

Either it IS for sale or it is NOT. Come on meow.

Gianucci posted an intercooler for sale a while back. He didn't disclose that it was a feeler thread until I engaged to buy the thing. Guess I lucked out.

I posted a WTB feeler (which turned completely serious), I was testing the waters and seeing what was out there without being completely committed.

I think they're stupid. An item is for sale or it's not.

Or someone really likes their car but would only let it go under the right circumstances.

So, then, it's for sale.

But if the right circumstances start met then it is not for sale. Feeler.

Feeler threads are just fancy 'What is this worth' threads, and I don't see anyone complaining about those.
If I was to complain about everything I wish I didn't see on bfc I would accidentally the whole bottle.

This.
To me by just browsing what is for sale I am essentially doing a feeler thread without actually creating a thread on the forums about a potential feeler thinking about buying this or that thread. I don't mind them - I think its pretty interesting input, but there have been an abundance of them over the years here. An easy way for someone to see what people are willing to pay for their car.

I did mine to see if the sum of the parts was worth more than the whole. They were.

This thread is a feeler thread IMO.
I don't mind feeler threads as long as they say so in the title.

So, then, it's for sale.
Everything is FOR SALE for the right PRICE.

Couldn't be.
Where did you hear that?
On the Internet.

Not missing a thing, just a thinly disguised offer to sell.:confused
Feeler = fishing for a sucker, typically in a discussion forum rather than FS where it belongs.
Gauran F'in teed that anyone offering up the usually rediculous price will turn it into a for sale/sold thread.

I don't see your point. It's still for sale.
Just because it's got a high asking price doesn't mean it's not a for sale thread.

Feelers are designed to keep the wannabes out of the game. If you have the means, feelers are for sale threads.
I posted my 91 as a feeler. Not really sure if I wanted to keep or sell. Turns out I do want to sell and I'm only getting interest from people who are actually able to buy.

If your going to sell it, sell it. Put a price on it. I can not stand when i have to email back and forth to see what you want for it. Everyone knows what they want in the first place., let everyone else know so they dont waste each others time. thats the reason the forum rules say you have to have a price.

Or if the right circumstances are not met it is NOT for sale. So..

The same could be said of a FS thread, but that's prolly enough on bf.c classified threads theory. I look at feelers as NFS. Not that I'm in a position to buy. :(

Feeler threads are for people that think their modified cars are worth way more than they actually are. Most are based around an unrealistic price.

Or if the right circumstances are not met it is NOT for sale. So..
So it's a FOR SALE thread with a high asking price? Got it.
Leonator134

Could be the seller will only let it go to a certain person, someone he/she knows will treat it right, stranger things have happened.
So in that case the seller puts his car out there to only let it go to the right person. So it's FOR SALE to the right person. IT is also NOT FOR SALE to the wrong person. Feeler'd.

02-02-2013, 07:36 PM
Oh, so it's a for sale thread? The car is for sale, no?
Leonator134
02-02-2013, 07:51 PM
Certainly! But also not for sale!!! I am in agreement that they are unnecessary and ultimately useless but I'm enjoying trying to get my point across :rofl
I posted my "WTB feeler" because I was cruising around the market looking at what's available. It would have been a "WTB" ad if I was 100% ready to drop coin on a car, but I was seeing what was out there before making any decisions.
