Im looking to see if anyone has any good experience with the fitment of the "upgraded" abs M5 rear bumper umnitza offers for $280... Ive heard/read bad feedback on all polypropelene ones. Trying to help my buddy source one for his 99 540/6... I know oem is the way to go but either theyre too expensive or nowhere to be found... Thanks im advance!!!

Wrong section buddy... you posted in the Touring Section :D. We touring guys are nuts and very picky, we don't take kindly to invasion of non-touring questions! :nono

:D LOL! There are a lot of threads about the rear bumpers. Some on M5 Board claim the DDM ones are the choice for rear bumper covers, some say the Umnitza ABS ones are the better Aftermarket choice. I am going to try fitting a DDM one soon and will let you know as we discussed. I have my concerns about the material and fitment.

Of course, OEM is the best option - but at $500+ being the cheapest, it can be a strain on the wallet depending on budget.

I have been testing out a DDM Rear M5 bumper and will be posting results at some point.

I have also been chatting with the Owner of Umnitza and he is quite insightful. I am leaning towards them for a Touring M5 Rear Bumper cover. I will keep you guys posted.

At their price now, I might get one myself. The big positive for us, the are local!

Just ordered my rear bumper from Umnitza. I will report back with fitment and photos when it arrives but I have heard nothing but good things about Umnitza's rear bumper fitment and was happy with the front. So far, my customer service experiences with them have been stellar as well.

I thought they only had sedan rear bumpers and the touring bumpers were a tad longer?

Nope, they sell the touring bumper in ABS. Significantly more expensive than the sedan but still much cheaper than OEM and it comes with the trim and tow hook cover..

Sweet. Curious to see how it fits :)

Everyone I have talked to about it on here said it's a perfect fit. Keeping my fingers crossed. The front bumper was super close but still about 1/8" off. Still well worth the price IMO.

fitment is perfect, and better than my m5 front bumper... this is the only photo i have that shows the rear

I will have mine mounted tonight just for test fitment. Looks good and they did a terrific job packaging. I don't envy that guys job.

I didn't know that the lower portion was not part of the bumper. So I guess I need to get a dual exhaust valence rather than cutting and adding filler to the one that came with it.

No lower piece?......hummmm

RVAE34

It came with it, I just never knew they were separate pieces.. At least I can just modify the valence for duals rather than the bumper.

I just test fit the Umnitza M rear bumper without mounting and am very impressed. Fits like OEM so I see no reason not to go aftermarket. My only complaint is that the part where the top trim mounts was damaged when I got it. Luckily you don't see that and I am sure I can heat it up a bit to push it back down. Other than that, I am very pleased and cannot wait to paint and fully install.

It is ABS and this is the touring section so you want to post in the regular E39 section for that.

That actually looks pretty good. I look forward to seeing it painted and installed.

Anyone know how much they cost? Shipped or picked up. The site says $379, but I think I heard somewhere there is also a pick up charge?

Here you go. After a year of use. Fit is way better than the front M5 bumpers for some reason.

Out the door price anyone? Jayster - Where did you get your's from?

RVAE34

I want to say mine was $90 for shipping. Greyhound only charges $40 but when you see how well it was packaged and realize how much time and effort that took, it explains the additional charge which I am fine with.

I do see the only negative about the rear bumper which I did notice on mine (although I hoped it would be better when installed). As you can see in that last photo from behind, the bumper dips down just a hair on the left and right side of the liftgate. Right below the outer light where the bumper and body meet. I am hoping I can reinforce that to bring it up but the inner assembly inside the bumper may prevent that. That being said, I still think it's worth saving almost 50% over OEM..

Looks sick!

Can a mod have this towed for me to the reg e39 section?

lol. Why would they tow it? Now it's all touring posts :)

Just do a simple search as this topic has been covered in the E39 section before.

Edit:

After looking at this pic of my OEM bumper, it looks as if that little dip under the corner light just to the left of the bottom liftgate corner is there as well so perhaps this is just the norm on the E39 touring. Odd that I never noticed it before test fit of the new bumper though if that is the case. Can anyone with an OEM M rear touring bumper confirm?

Brandon,, I think its the norm as far as oem bumpers go,,Gap wise. Mine is similar to yours. My right side shows more of a gap the the left. I can snap a pic tomorrow ,, seriously the wheels look great in that shot.nice stance

digging umnitza's rear bumper. on their site, it says it's "Polypropylene", not ABS though. wish they would mark it as "on sale" like the sedans.

RVAE34- How similar is the black trim on the bumper to the OE trim on the doors? IE texture, color, color, thickness, etc? Fit looks great by the way. What an awesome project.

RVAE34

Very close. But I reshot my M5 trim with rally black just to make it look like new. I have never been a fan of armor all on black exterior trim so I usually paint it.

Umnitza's rear bumper is ABS. Not sure why they haven't updated the site..
