Hey. I have been scouting the forums for a while now but could not find the exact problem I am facing hence starting a new thread.

I bought a 1994 BMW E36 Convertible with the Mtech kit. When I bought it, the gears were clunky which was traced to an ATF leak. Removed the sump, changing the ATF and filter and the problem went away. However, I always noticed that the gear shifting was not very smooth.

Some months ago, I developed another problem however that I cant for the life of me figure out. When I start the car each morning, the gear shifts fine from Park to Neutral and onwards to Drive and the car drives fine, gears shift etc. However, after driving some distance say 15 minutes or when the car is warm, If i stop the car or try changing the gear it gets stuck and requires a lot of force to jam back up to park or neutral or reverse. If i turn the car off and then wait for a while (an hour or so) the gear begins to shift freely again. What is it?

THERE IS NO GEARBOX COG LIGHT IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THOUGH

I've read various messages about 'limp mode' safe mode etc solenoids, sensors, slushbox and about changing the detents and even the camshaft sensor but don't want to open the transmission until I have to. Am i missing something? As the gear only gets stuck after driving and is fine again the next morning?

What should I check first? And what is the likely cause of this or do I have to do all of the above??? Also, when I shift the gear from neutral to drive the light on the gearbox selector is placed somewhat halfway between neutral and drive so both are somewhat lit? Is that got something to do with it but that was always the case and the gear sticking /hard to shift is a recent problem?

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Can anyone help??

Does anyone have any suggestions pls?.

are you sure the transmission is full of fluid? Could be that as it warms up and circulates into the cooling lines and the torques converter that it becomes low and therefore hard to shift. Anyway, it's cheap and easy to check.

Good Luck
