E36 fans,
Just wondering if anyone else has consider moving over to Porsche from a bimmer? I've had my E36 1997 328i Alpine white for 4 years now and it's been a fun car so far. Totally reliable and a fun drop top. All the little minor problems upgraded or replaced. Bigger wheels, cooling overhauled, leather restored, M3 bumper, blown speakers, angel eyes, etc. My biggest complain is it's dropping value and I only have room for 1 project car. I put a lot sweat fixing her up and she's really isn't worth any more money and time at this point. I bought her at $4200 and put in another $4200 and I'll get $7-$6k at best. Currently, my e36 has come a long way and I"m ready to move on to another project. I've been a huge fan of 911 and the prices on those car hold there value. I'm thinking of spending $9-$11k for a fixer upper. It seems I could only afford 70's to maybe late 80's 911(930). I never knew Porsche has such low production numbers. It seems they only produce about 20-35 thousand each year world wide since the 70's!!! Wow that's like 4% of just 3 series. I'm guessing owning a late Porsche will be a money pit. I looked around and the forum fan base is really small too. Really only couple website but no really chat going for technical questions. I'm guessing because the Porsche owner isn't really going online asking for help. So is this endeavor a money pit? Will I find restoring a Porsche 10 times the headache? Does anyone here own a 911 and/or a Bimmer? What do you guys think? I'm trying gauge should I move on to Porsche or possibly a 60's-70's muscle car for the value? or blow my cash and buy a E46 M3 for the speed and fun of it... knowing the value is totally the speed and fun of M3.
