Hello,

I have a set of Dunlop Wintersport M3's that are no longer used as my 2003 M3 is now only track driven. The tires have been bagged and stored in a heated basement when not in use. The production date on the set is mid-2005. Are these too old to be used? I am considering selling them but do not want to put them up for sale if they are unsafe. A few pics of the tread are attached.

TIA

They look surprising good for being 8 years old. Is there any cracking on the sidewall, etc.?

At that age the tread should be ready to separate from the carcass once it gets some heat in it, but if they haven't dried out you may have an exception there?

The tire manufacturers say 10 years from the date of mfg. or 6 years once used.

That is VERY considerate of you. Most people, "professionals" included, will hide the manuf. date from the consumer in hopes to make a quick sale. They would disregard the fact that the tire is 7 yrs old and put an unknowing family at risk. 20/20 did a story a few years back with hidden camera and everything. I didn't know how to read a tire's age or know about their lifespan until I saw that. Props for that sir!:buttrock

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like they are near end of life if not past it already. With summer and track tires they are always worn out long before I ever have to think about how old they are. I'll keep these for winter storage or trash the tires and just sell the rims.

It's not worth a few bucks to put someone else at risk. Thanks for the comment! :drink1
